JioPhone: Specifications, Features
Manufactured by LYF Mobiles, the JioPhone comes with 2.4-inch 320 x 240 QVGA resolution display. Under the hood, some units of the JioPhone utilize the dual-core Qualcomm 205 mobile platform with an Adreno 304 GPU, while other units are powered by a Spreadtrum SP9820A dual-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz with a Mali-400 GPU. In terms of memory, the JioPhone includes 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. For further expansion, the smart feature phone comes with a microSD card slot that will accept up to 128GB microSD cards.
Like other feature phones, the JioPhone isn’t impressive when it comes to the camera department. It features a 2MP resolution rear camera and has a 0.3MP VGA resolution camera on the front. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 Low Energy, NFC, and 4G VoLTE. Keeping the lights on is a 2000mAh capacity battery. While the battery capacity may not sound impressive when compared to smartphones, the JioPhone actually has a bigger battery than most other feature phones out there. As a result, the company claims the handset delivers up to 15 days of standby time and talk time of up to 12 hours. In terms of software, the JioPhone runs on the KaiOS mobile operating system, which is currently the second most popular mobile OS in India after Android, thanks to the huge success of the JioPhone.
JioPhone: New JioPhone 2 Worth The Premium?
The new JioPhone 2, which was announced earlier this month at Reliance Industries’ 41st Annual General Meeting (AGM), is very similar to the JioPhone in many areas. From the outside, however, the new JioPhone 2 looks very different thanks to a new design with a QWERTY keypad and a 4-way navigation key. Even though the design is very different, the new model features an identical 2.4-inch sized display with the same QVGA resolution.
While Reliance is yet to confirm the key hardware specifications of the JioPhone 2, it is expected to be running on the same dual-core processors as the JioPhone. The JioPhone 2 also comes with the same 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot for further expansion, 2MP rear camera, and a 0.3MP front camera. In the connectivity department, the one key difference is support for Dual SIM cards on the JioPhone 2. Moving on to software, the JioPhone successor runs on the KaiOS and supports popular apps like WhatsApp, YouTube, and Facebook. Keeping the lights on is a 2000mAh capacity.
While the JioPhone 2 and JioPhone are quite similar in terms of hardware specs, the JioPhone 2 is priced higher at Rs.2,999. It will be available for purchase in India starting August 15th. Unless you simply hate the design of the JioPhone or love the QWERTY keypad, the JioPhone 2 isn’t worth the premium.
