Samsung Galaxy Watch Receives FCC Certification Ahead of Launch on August 9

Earlier this week, a report out of South Korea claimed that Samsung will debut the Galaxy Watch alongside the Galaxy Note 9 at its Unpacked event on the 9th of August. Ahead of the smartwatch’s official unveiling, a Galaxy Watch variant has received the FCC certification.

Galaxy Watch: FCC Certification Received

The US FCC has certified the SM-R810 variant of the upcoming Galaxy Watch, which was spotted on the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) website a few weeks back. Apart from SM-R810, the SM-R800, SM-R805, and SM-R815 variants of the smartwatch were also spotted on the EEC website. While the FCC listing doesn’t tell us much about the Galaxy Watch, it does confirm that it will come with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth connectivity.

Galaxy Watch: Tipped to Launch Next Month

According to a recent report out of South Korea, Samsung’s first Galaxy branded smartwatch will be making its debut alongside the Galaxy Note 9 at the company’s August 9 Unpacked event. In select markets, the wearable is expected to be made available for pre-order on August 14, the same day as the Galaxy Note 9. It will also go on sale on the same day as the Galaxy Note 9, i.e. August 24th.

Galaxy Watch: Rumored Specifications, Features

Despite the fact that the Gear S3 successor will be hitting the markets as the Galaxy Watch, it now more or less confirmed that it will not be running on Google’s Wear OS. Instead, it will be running on Samsung’s Tizen platform, similar to previous Gear smartwatches. According to latest reports, the Galaxy Watch will specialize in some “killer” health and fitness-related features, which could make it a formidable rival to the Apple Watch Series 3. The Galaxy Watch is expected to sport a similar 1.3-inch sized display as the Gear S3, although it will offer superior battery life thanks to a rumored 470mAh capacity battery under the hood. Thanks to the bigger battery, we can expect the Galaxy Watch to provide around 3 days of battery life under normal usage. It could also come with Bixby support and LTE connectivity. More details are expected to be leaked online in the coming days.

Galaxy Watch: Expected Price in India

The Gear S3 was launched in India in January last year with a price tag of Rs.28,500. We can expect the Galaxy Watch to be priced at somewhere around the same region. What remains to be seen, however, is if Samsung brings the Galaxy Watch to India along with the Galaxy Note 9. In case the Galaxy Watch is not launched along with the Galaxy Note 9 in India next month, we can expect it to be launched in the country sometime later this year.
