The Huawei Nova 3i is a scaled-down version of the newly released Huawei Nova 3. The Nova 3i is aimed at a budget-friendly audience and aims to compete with the likes of Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, and Nokia. Today, we’ll focus exclusively on how the Nova 3i stands up against its Chinese rivals; Oppo and Vivo. The Huawei Nova 3i falls under the same price range as the Oppo F7 and Vivo V9. Let’s take a look at which one is the most bang for your buck.
Huawei Nova 3i vs Oppo F7 vs Vivo V9: Price in India
The base variant of the Huawei Nova 3i is priced at Rs. 20,400 for the base variant 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The Vivo V9 retails at 19,709 and the Oppo F7 at 17,735 for the same storage options. Prima facie, the Oppo F7 is the cheapest of the lot. Let’s see if it is worth spending the extra money on the Vivo V9 and Nova 3i.
Huawei Nova 3i vs Oppo F7 vs Vivo V9: Design, Display
All the three devices have a similar screen size at around the 6.2-6.3-inch mark with a resolution of 2160×1080 and an aspect ratio of 18-19:9. The three devices are similar looking, with an IPS LCD panel and a notched panel. It’s hard to distinguish between the three devices from a strict design point of view and I’d call it a three-way tie.
Huawei Nova 3i vs Oppo F7 vs Vivo V9: Performance, Hardware Specifications
Here is where the Huawei Nova 3i begins to shine. The octa-core Kirin 710 SoC powering the Nova 3i crushes the Oppo F7’s MediaTek Helios P60 and the Vivo V9’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 626. The Kirin 710 offers inbuilt support for Huawei’s AI engine, something that is lacking in the other two devices. The Nova 3i also gets a slight edge here because of the Kirin SoCs being developed in-house by Huawei. Additionally, the Kirin 710 is a relatively new chip compared to the Snapdragon 626 and Helio P60.
Huawei Nova 3i vs Oppo F7 vs Vivo V9: Camera Features
Once again, the Huawei Nova 3i reigns supreme. The 24+16-megapixel primary sensors on the Nova 3i are significantly better than the 16-megapixel sensor on the Oppo F7 and the 16+5-megapixel sensors on the Vivo V9. The Oppo F7 has a slight edge in the selfie camera department, as it sports a 25-megapixel lens compared to the 24-megapixel snapper on the Vivo V9 and the 20-megapixel sensor on the Huawei Nova 3i. The Nova 3i also offers Ai-assisted camera features such as portrait mode, object recognition and more, making it the better device.
Huawei Nova 3i Vs. Oppo F7 Vs. Vivo V9: Software
All three devices run heavily-customised versions of Android 8.1 Oreo. The Oppo F7’s Android fork is known as Colour OS, the Vivo V9’s Funtouch OS and the Nova 3i’s EMUI. All three forks offer a different user experience and features and come with their share of bloat. This segment really boils down to personal preference and which fork you’re used to. The Nova 3i gets a slight edge here owing to Huawei’s consistency with updates. Although it’ll be a long time before any of the devices receive Android P, the chanced of the Nova 3i receiving it first are higher, as Oppo and Vivo aren’t known for pushing out regular updates.
Huawei Nova 3i Vs. Oppo F7 Vs. Vivo V9: Verdict
The Huawei Nova 3i is the clear winner here, as it trumps the Oppo F7 and Vivo V9 in all aspects. It is a tad unfair to compare a newly released device with ones that are a few months old, but our objective here is to determine which one is the best value for your money. It’ll be some time before you can lay your hands on the Niva 3i, though. The device has been released only in China and we’re not entirely sure how long it’ll be before it hits the Indian market.
