Reliance Jio is all set launch its exclusive feature phone later today. The device will be available starting 5 PM today. The device is being launched as a part of its Jio Phone Monsoon Hungama offer. The offer was announced by Reliance Industries at their 5th Annual General Meeting that took place on the 5th of July. This is an attractive offer for users that want to start using feature phones on the Jio network. Reliance Jio’s main objective with the phone’s launch is to expand its user base from 25 million users to 100 million users in the near future.
A statement from Reliance Jio read “With as many as 500 million Indians still using feature phones with no access to the Internet, the doors of Digital Life are closed to them mainly because of the problem of affordability”. The feature phone market is all triple in India by 2020 and the Mukesh Ambani owned telecom giant is all set to tap this potentially huge market through its own brand of feature phones.
So here are five things you need to know about the Reliance Jio Feature Phone that is set to be launched today:
Get a JioPhone at just Rs. 501 on Exchange:
Feature phones are, in general, low-cost devices. But with Reliance Jio’s Monsoon Hungama offer, users can purchase a JioPhone at just Rs. 501. The current market price for the Reliance JioPhone is Rs. 1,500 and the company promises to refund the amount after a period of three years is completed. In order to avail this offer, users must submit their existing feature phones.
Offer Kickstarts at 5:01 PM on July 20th 2018:
The telecom giant is all set to launch the JioPhone on 20th July 2018 and it will be available from 5:01 PM onwards. Coincidentally the phone’s price tag is Rs. 501. The official statement from Reliance Jio was “Starting, 5:01 PM July 20, 2018, customers will be able to exchange any old feature phone (of any brand) for a brand new JioPhone (existing model) at an effective entry cost of only Rs 501”.
Users Get the JioPhone 1 at Rs. 501, not the JioPhone 2:
With Reliance Jio launching two devices – JioPhone 1 and JioPhone 2, there has been some confusion regarding which phone is available as a part of the exchange offer. For those that have this confusion the offer is applicable only for the JioPhone 1. So users can exchange their old feature phones and get the first generation JioPhone and not the JioPhone 2 that has been recently launched. The Jio Phone 2 is available for sale only from August onwards.
JioPhone Tariff Plans are valid:
After the launch of the JioPhone users will still be able to avail of existing offers and tariffs that are provided by Reliance Jio. The most popular prepaid recharge plans Rs. 49 or Rs. 153 plans will offer 4G connectivity services to JioPhone users on the Reliance Jio network. The Rs. 49, which is the cheapest plan offers 1G data along with unlimited voice calling for a period of 28 days. The Rs. 153 plan offers 1.5GB of mobile data per day with unlimited voice calls for a period of 28 days.
No WhatsApp, Facebook and YouTube support right away:
These three are the most used apps in Indian Smartphones, however, Reliance has confirmed that the apps won’t be available on JioPhones until August 15th. Until then users can go to the KaiOS store and manually download these apps and use them.
