Last week, HMD Global launched its second X series smartphone in India, the X5. In a new post on its Weibo page, Nokia China has revealed that in just five days, the company has managed to sell over 130,000 units of the smartphone.
Nokia X5: Over 130,000 Units Sold in China in Just Five Days
The sales numbers shared by Nokia on Weibo are hardly surprising. HMD’s first X series smartphone for the Chinese market, the X6 had gone been sold out in just 10 seconds in its first sale. Going by the initial sales numbers, there is a good chance that the Nokia X5 might turn out to be more popular, if not more than the Nokia X6 in China. What should also help the Nokia X5 is its more affordable price tag when compared to the Nokia X6. At this rate, the Nokia X5 is likely to reach the 1 million sales milestone within three months of its debut in China.
Nokia X5: Specifications, Features
HMD Global’s Nokia X5 features a 5.86-inch sized IPS LCD display with 720 x 1520 HD+ resolution and a 19:9 aspect ratio, thanks to the notch at the top. While the Nokia X6 runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset under the hood, Nokia X5 is powered by a MediaTek Helio P60 octa-core processor, which is clocked at 2.0 GHz and comes with a Mali-G72 MP3 GPU to handle the graphics. The Helio P60 is manufactured on a 12nm process, which makes it more efficient than most mid-range mobile SoCs, especially when compared to some of the older chipsets from MediaTek. In terms of memory, the Nokia X5 is available in two configurations – 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage. Users can expand the storage further, thanks to a microSD card slot. However, do note that the X5 comes with a Hybrid Dual-SIM slot configuration and not a dedicated microSD card slot.
Moving on to optics, the Nokia X5 sports a 13MP + 5MP dual-camera setup at the rear with various AI-assisted features including an AI Portrait mode. The primary 13MP sensor is paired with an f/2.0 aperture lens and boasts a 1.12um pixel size. If you wish to have greater control over the camera settings, you can gain manual control using the Pro Mode in the camera app. For selfies and video calls, the Nokia X5 comes with an 8MP snapper on the front. The X5 supports the Bothie feature as well, letting users capture a photo or video using both the front and rear cameras simultaneously. For unlocking the smartphone, users can either use the AI-powered Face Unlock feature or the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.
Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, USB Type-C port, and Dual 4G VoLTE. The smartphone packs a 3060mAh capacity battery, identical to the more expensive Nokia X6. However, unlike the Nokia X6, the X5 lacks fast charging support. As for physical dimensions, the smartphone measures 149.51 x 71.98 x 8.096mm and weighs in at 160 grams. The smartphone runs on the Android 8.1 Oreo operating system currently and is guaranteed to receive an update to Android P sometime in the future.
Nokia X5: Expected Price in India
The Nokia X5 is expected to be launched in global markets soon as the Nokia 5.1 Plus. While it hasn’t been confirmed yet if the smartphone will be launched in India, we can expect the Nokia 5.1 Plus 3GB RAM + 32GB storage to be priced closer to the Rs.10,000 mark in India. The 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant, on the other hand, will likely be priced under Rs.15,000.
