It seems like Xiaomi is set to go head-on with the likes of smartphone giants like  Samsung and Apple in the greater reaches of the smartphone market. The Chinese company overtook Samsung to become the largest smartphone brand in India, as per last year’s statistics. The company is gradually making its way to the European markets. The company has recently made its way to Italy with its first Mi Store in Milan. With this new record, Xiaomi aces the department of selling the highest number of smartphones sold by any brand in any quarter in India.

Samsung Catches up With Xiaomi’s Record

Chasing Xiaomi’s record-high sales, Samsung has also registered a new high in its smartphone sales record. According to a report from Singapore-based market research firm, Samsung shipped 9.9 million smartphones in India in the second quarter of 2018, registering almost 50% annual growth rate, which is its personal best since the fourth quarter of 2015. Judging by the numbers, Samsung is only a hair behind Xiaomi in terms of sales record. With over 33 million smartphone shipments in India, the two companies together account for 60% of total shipments, which is up from 43% last year. Going by the report, in quarter one of 2018, Xiaomi shipped over nine million units, allowing it to hold a market share of over 31%. Samsung, on the other hand, had a 26.2% share after shipping just under 7.5 million smartphones. The best-selling smartphone in Q2 this year was the Xiaomi Redmi 5A with 3.3 million units shipped, which gave it a decent edge over  Samsung’s best seller offering- the Galaxy J2 Pro (2018) with 2.3 million shipped.
