The Indian smartphone market has witnessed a plethora of launches under the mid-range segment, this year. With the growing trend of bringing out sub-brands, companies like Huawei and Oppo have devised another successful strategy that helped them in targeting the budget or mid-range segment better. Huawei’s Honor and Oppo’s Realme sub-brands have lived up to the name of their parent companies. In this comparison, we are comparing three phone belonging to these brands – Huawei Honor 9N, Honor 9 Lite, and Oppo Realme 1.

Honor 9N vs Honor 9 Lite vs Oppo Realme 1: Price in India

The Huawei Honor 9 Lite went on sale recently. The smartphone is available in 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB variants. The 3GB/32GB variant carries an MRP of Rs. 13,999.  The base variant comes in three colours — Glacier Grey, Midnight Black, and Sapphire Blue. The price for all three variants is the same in the 32GB variant, but that is not the case with the 64GB storage, 4GB RAM variant. The Sapphire Blue handset of the 64GB variant is costlier at Rs 17,999, while the Midnight Black and Glacier Grey variants come with a price tag of Rs 16,999. Interestingly, buyers can grab the smartphone at multiple low prices. The internal storage is expandable up to 256GB

The Oppo Realme 1 costs Rs.12,990 and is selling for Rs.10,990 at Amazon for its 4GB/64GB variant. The 3GB/32GB variant is currently unavailable, while the 6GB/128GB ROM model costs Rs.14,990, but is selling for Rs.13,990 in the limited offer. Buyers should hurry because this fantastic price may not last longer than a few hours. Buyers can claim up to Rs.9,250 off on exchange for the 64GB variant and Rs.11,600 on the 128GB one.


Honor 9N is available in 3GB/32GB, 4GB/64GB and 4GB/128GB variants. The memory is expandable using a micro SD card. The 3GB/32GB variant costs Rs.11,999. The 4GB/64GB model carries an MRP of Rs.13,999. The 4GB/128GB models costs Rs.17,999. All three devices will be exclusively available on Flipkart starting at 12 PM noon on July 31.

Huawei’s Honor 9 Lite smartphone features a 5.65-inch Full HD+ display with a small chin and thin bezels. The screen resolution is of 1080x2160pixels. The display pixel density is an impressive 428 PPI. The phone gets a fingerprint sensor on the rear, and the design includes a 2.5D curved glass. An octa-core Kirin 659 processor capable of hitting 2.36GHz powers the device.

The Oppo Realme 1 has a 6-inch Full HD+ display with a pixel density of 403 PPI and 18:9 aspect ratio. The screen comes with a screen resolution of 1080×2160 pixels. There’s a rather fast Face Unlock feature powered by AI that boasts of a 0.1 second response time. An octa-core Helio P60 processor clocked at 2.0GHz powers the device.

The Huawei Honor 9N features a metal unibody design and is the only device on the list to sport a notched-screen. The design also features a 2.5 glass that encloses a metallic frame. The display sports a 5.84 inches screen with a resolution of 1080×2280 pixels and has a 19:9 aspect ratio. The same chipset that powers the Honor 9 Lite, is present here.

The Honor 9 Lite is perhaps the only budget Android smartphone to pack four camera sensors. The dual and front cameras both come with a 13MP+2MP setup. The rear dual camera also comes with LED flash and phase-detection autofocus. Since both cameras feature depth sensors, it goes without saying that the front and rear cameras come with a wide aperture and portrait mode shooting, with the much-loved bokeh effect blurring out the background. Incidentally, even the front camera setup gets a LED flash.

The Oppo Realme 1 packs single camera lenses on the front and the back. However, both the front and rear 13MP and 8MP cameras respectively, get portrait mode for bokeh effect, thanks to AI. The front camera is backed by some serious AI functionality to boast a Face Unlock feature that claims to unlock the smartphone in 0.1 seconds or less.

The Honor 9N packs a dual camera setup on the back with 13MP+2MP sensors. Incidentally, this is same as Honor 9 Lite. However, unlike the Honor 9 Lite, the 9N packs a single 16MP front camera.

The Honor 9 Lite packs a non-removable Li-Po 3,000 mAh battery. Oppo packs a 3,410 mAh Li-Ion battery within the Realme 1, that’s further optimized by artificial intelligence for optimum usage. The Huawei Honor 9N is fuelled by a standard 3,000mAh battery, which is similar to the Honor 9 Lite.

The Honor 9 Lite runs EMUI 8.0 skin based on Android 8.0. The Oppo Realme 1 runs ColorOS 5.0 skin based on Android 8.1 Oreo. The 9N runs the exact same operating system as Honor 9 Lite. None of the companies have rolled out stable Android P OS for these devices yet. But this may change.

The Honor 9 Lite and Honor 9N are remarkably similar devices. Except for the camera setup, buyers won’t find any striking difference between the two. The Oppo Realme 1, on the other hand, is a rather interesting device that packs a lot of AI-driven features. But it lacks a fingerprint scanner and depends solely on the front camera for Face Unlock.
