Nokia X6, the first notched smartphone from HMD Global was recently launched for the global buyers. Now, the company is gearing up to launch the Nokia X6 aka Nokia 6.1 Plus in India.

Nokia X6: Soon to Launch in India?

The Nokia X6, which is to be rebranded as Nokia 6.1 Plus for the Asian market, will soon launch in India. The strategically priced smartphone could land in India this month. The smartphone has already proven to be a huge success in China.

Nokia’s official Twitter handle for India has recently shared a tweet that hints at an imminent launch in India. The tweet reads,“All the Nokia fans out there tell us your favourite Nokia smartphone experience and stand a chance to witness the next exclusive launch event.” Although the tweet does not reveal the name of the smartphone, we know that they are hinting at none other than the Nokia X6 aka Nokia 6.1 Plus.

Nokia X6: Specifications

The Nokia X6 features a rather standard 5.8-inch IPS LCD screen with a display resolution of 2280×1080. The Full HD screen has a 19:9 aspect ratio. Mid-range Snapdragon 636 chipset, coupled with an Adreno 509 GPU, powers the device. When X6 or Nokia 6.1 Plus is officially launched in India, the SoC will be paired with two different RAM variants of 4GB or 6GB RAM. The phone will come in two variants in terms of onboard storage space as well. Buyers could get a choice between 32GB and 64GB internal storage. The internal memory can be expanded up to 256GB with the use of a micro-SD card. Incidentally, the X6 has a hybrid SIM slot.

The Nokia X6 has all the standard connectivity options. These include a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack, a USB Type-C connector, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, USB Type-C, and 4G VoLTE. A rather mundane 3060 mAh capacity battery powers the device. Fortunately, it supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging standard. The Nokia X6 (6.1 Plus) comes with a fingerprint sensor as well, mounted on the back of the handset. In terms of physical size, the Nokia X6 (6.1 Plus) measures 147.2 x 71 x 8mm. It weighs in at 153 grams.

The smartphone has a dual rear camera setup with a 12MP f/1.8 and 20MP f/1.8 lens mounted on the back. The phone features a 16MP selfie camera on the front. The units supports HDR and AI-assisted features such as portrait lighting effects, optimized colour contrast, and more for enhanced image output.

Nokia X6: Features

Incidentally, it is the first smartphone from HMD Global to feature a notch at the top of the display. Owing to the design, the Nokia X6 has a rather impressive 85% screen-to-body ratio. Despite the pricing, the smartphone is built with premium glass construction on both sides. Also, the Nokia X6 is the first ever Nokia-branded smartphone with a display-to-body ratio that is higher than the other HMD Global smartphones released right now.

Nokia X6 runs on the Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box. Moreover, tech experts have appreciated HMD Global for choosing Android One. This parallel stream of Android OS gets software and security updates for a long time.

Nokia X6: Performance, Competition, Expected Price in India

Considering the previous performance of Nokia-branded phones, such as the Snapdragon 660-powered Nokia 7 Plus, this phone would certainly have adequate performance and is expected to work faster than most other smartphones in the same pricing category. It can further be said that the phone will also allow users to switch easily between different apps and multi-task seamlessly.

The Nokia X6 (6.1 Plus) was launched at HKD 2,288 (approx. Rs 20,000) in Hong Kong. We can expect it to launch under the Rs.17,000 mark for the base variant in India.

At these prices, the Nokia X6 will give tough competition to Xiaomi Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite. These devices do offer some impressive features for the price. However, the Nokia X6 has already proven its mettle on Xiaomi’s home turf. Hence the competition could be intense once the smartphone launches globally.
