The Lenovo Z5 is yet to launch in India, but we can expect it to launch under 20K segment in India. The device has been launched at CNY 1,399 (approx. Rs. 14,700) for the 6GB RAM+64GB storage variant and CNY 1,799 (approx. Rs. 18,900) for 6GB RAM+128GB storage variant. The Redmi Note 5 Pro, on the other hand, is available at Rs 13,999 for the 4GB RAM+64GB storage model and Rs. 16,999 for the 6GB RAM+64GB storage variant. The Vivo V9 retails at Rs. 20,100 in India. Vivo recently launched a special Sapphire Blue colour variant for the Vivo V9 in India at Rs. 22,990.

Redmi Note 5 Pro, Lenovo Z5, Vivo V9: Display

The Lenovo Z5 comes with a 6.2-inch full-HD+ IPS notched display at 1080×2246 pixels resolution and 18.7:9 aspect ratio. The Redmi Note 5 Pro boasts a 5.99-inch display full HD with a 1080×2160 pixels resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. The Vivo V9 also sports a notched display with a 6.3-inch full-HD+ IPS ‘FullView Display 2.0’ and an aspect ratio of 19:9.

In this segment, both the Lenovo Z5 and Vivo V9 have taller notched displays with better resolutions. However, the pricing of Redmi Note 5 Pro makes it look like a valid competitor here. If you are looking for a phone at lower pricing featuring a full HD 1080p display then the Redmi Note 5 Pro is perfect for you. And if you can stretch your budget by another 3k, then you can go for the Vivo V9.

Redmi Note 5 Pro, Lenovo Z5, Vivo V9: Performance, Software, Battery

The Lenovo Z5 is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor with 6GB of RAM and 64GB/ 128GB inbuilt storage, which can be further expanded up to 256GB via microSD card. On the software side, the phone runs Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box. It is backed by a 3300mAh battery with 15W fast charge support.

An octa-core Snapdragon 636 chipset powers the Redmi Note 5 Pro clubbed with Adreno 509 GPU with up to 6GB of RAM and 64GB storage. At the time of launch, the phone was shipped with MIUI 9.2 running atop Android 7.1.2 Nougat, but it has recently received an update to Android Oreo-based MIUI 9.5.14 update. A 4000mAh battery backs the device with support for fast-charging.

The Vivo V9 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 SoC coupled with 4GB of DDR3 RAM. It has 64GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 256GB via microSD card. A 3260mAh battery backs the device without support for fast charging. The Vivo V9 runs Funtouch OS 4.0 based on Android 8.1 Oreo.

In this segment, both the Lenovo Z5 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro outshine the Vivo V9 that comes with a slightly under-powered SoC.

In the imaging department, the Lenovo Z5 sports 16MP+8MP dual camera setup at the rear with LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, HDR+, and 4K support. There is an 8MP selfie snapper with f/2.0 aperture and support for full-HD video recording. The Redmi Note 5 Pro, on the contrary, packs 12MP+5MP dual rear camera setup with f/2.2 aperture and f/2.0 aperture for each lens. It has a 20MP selfie snapper at the front with LED flash. Lastly, the Vivo V9 has a 16MP+5MP dual camera setup at the rear clubbed with f/2.0 and f2/.4 apertures, respectively and an ‘Ultra HDR’ mode. There is a 24MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture.

Given the camera specs, the Lenovo Z5 has a better rear camera while the Vivo V9 has a powerful front camera. But the Vivo V9 offers an overall package.

To sum it up, the Vivo V9 has a good display and camera setup but it goes far back when in comes to processor. The Lenovo Z5 shines as the best smartphone in the comparison, but it is yet to launch in India. This leaves us with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro that obviously offers a bang for buck.
