The Samsung Galaxy On8 (2018) smartphone is part of the Galaxy On series. Interestingly, Samsung appears to be segregating a few of the previously launched smartphones between offline and online channels. The Galaxy On8 is a similarly rebranded smartphone that was previously launched as the Galaxy J8. The mid-range Android Smartphone with S-AMOLED display will go on sale today exclusively on Flipkart at 12 PM.
The Samsung’s latest Galaxy On series device, the Galaxy On8, launched at the beginning of this month. Interestingly, the new On8 isn’t that new. For the most part, the Galaxy On8 is quite identical to the Galaxy J8. Incidentally, the Galaxy J8 was launched in India alongside the Galaxy J6 in May.
Samsung Galaxy On8: Specifications, Features
The Samsung Galaxy On8 (2018) has a 6-inch Super AMOLED Infinity Display with 720×1480 HD+ resolution and an 18.5:9 aspect ratio. An octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chipset clocked at 1.6 GHz with an Adreno 506 GPU powers the smartphone. The “new” Galaxy On8 from Samsung features 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. For further expansion up to 256GB, the smartphone has a dedicated microSD card slot.
Galaxy On8 has a 16MP + 5MP dual-camera setup on the back. The camera offers features like Live Focus, Portrait Backdrop, Portrait Dolly, Background Blur Shape, and more. While the 16MP primary sensor is coupled with an f/1.7 aperture, the secondary 5MP depth sensor is paired with an f/1.9 aperture. For selfies, the Galaxy On8 features a 16MP snapper on the front with an f/1.9 aperture and an LED flash.
Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, FM radio, USB OTG, and 4G VoLTE. As mentioned earlier, the Galaxy On8 is quite identical to the Galaxy J8 in terms of battery capacity as well. It packs a 3500mAh non-removable battery. Strangely, the battery does not support fast charging. Samsung Galaxy On8 measures 159.2 x 75.7 x 8.2mm and weighs 191 grams.
Samsung Galaxy On8: Features
The most notable feature of the mid-range Android smartphone is the Super AMOLED display. Such display tech is rarely found in the price range this device is available. Having an S-AMOLED screen means that the device will be able to produce sharper colors with a higher contrast ratio. Additionally, the handset is also going to have a higher brightness level, which is going to be very beneficial when you want to use the smartphone outdoors. Devices with IPS LCD screens are unable to produce the same brightness levels as S-AMOLED panel. Moreover, because the AMOLED panels are ultra-thin and flexible, manufacturers have additional freedom to make their smartphones sleeker and better looking.
The 16MP camera supports face recognition for quick Face Unlock. Besides this method, the On8 also has a fingerprint sensor on the back. Samsung has positioned the biometric authentication sensor below the vertically-stacked dual cameras. Despite the powerful rear camera, the Galaxy On8 can capture only Full HD 1080p videos at up to 30fps and not 4K like some of the other smartphones that are available for around the same price.
The Galaxy On8 will ship with the Android 8.0 Oreo-based Samsung Experience UI out of the box with some new features that we hadn’t seen on older budget Galaxy handsets. The smartphone comes with a Social Camera app that makes it easy to share photos instantly with friends and family. With the Samsung Mall app, users can shoot any items that they like and search for a similar item across various online shopping websites with the help of Samsung’s AI-powered visual search technology.
Samsung Galaxy On8: Price and Availability
The Samsung Galaxy On8 will be available at Rs.16,990 in India.
