OPPO R17, R17 Pro: Listed on TENAA
Two variants of the OPPO R17 Pro have been certified by TENAA, carrying the model numbers PBEM00/PBET00. According to the images uploaded on the TENAA website, the R17 Pro will not have a fingerprint sensor on the back. This could mean that the device will either have an in-display fingerprint sensor or 3D facial recognition similar to the company’s flagship Find X smartphone. Sadly, the TENAA listings for the PBEM00 and PBET00 do not include detailed specifications. However, the listings do tell us that the smartphone will have a 6.4-inch sized display and feature a 3415mAh capacity battery. In terms of size, the smartphone will measure 157.5 x 74.9 x 7.5mm.
The R17, on the other hand, features a near identical design to the R17 Pro but comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. However, a Chinese leakster has suggested that the device spotted on TENAA with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor is not the R17 but an upcoming A series device that will have a similar design to the R17. The R17 Pro, on the other, he claims has not yet been listed by TENAA. This means the PBEM00/PBET00 could perhaps be the R17 and not the R17 Pro. If the leakster is to be believed, the R17 and R17 Pro will both come equipped with 3D facial recognition and run on Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 710 mid-range mobile SoC. The R17 Pro could even be equipped with a whopping 10GB of RAM, while the R17 could be available with 8GB of RAM.
OPPO R17, R17 Pro: Expected to Launch in China Later This Month
Rumors suggest the R17 and R17 Pro smartphones could be launched in China by the end of this month. While no specific date has been confirmed just yet, we do expect to begin teasing the R17 and R17 Plus smartphones on social media in China soon. Both the smartphones are expected to feature a near bezel-less screen with a waterdrop notch at the top, similar to the upcoming F9 and F9 Pro smartphones. The R17 duo could also be the world’s first smartphones to come with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection. While the R series smartphones are not expected to arrive in India, the F9 Pro will be launched in the country soon. OPPO India has started teasing the launch of the F9 Pro in the country but is yet to confirm a specific launch date. The F9 Pro is expected to be positioned slightly above the OPPO F7, which was launched in the country earlier this year.
