August is certainly going to be a great month for smartphone fans in India. A few highly anticipated devices like the Xiaomi Mi A2 have already been launched in India and others like Samsung Galaxy Note 9 are expected to arrive in the country very soon. Here are three major smartphones that are set to be launched in India this month.

Nokia 6.1 Plus (Nokia X6)

The Nokia 6.1 Plus, which was launched in China as the Nokia X6 earlier this year, will be arriving in India on the 21st of August. That’s when HMD Global will be holding its next big launch event in the country. So far, HMD Global has launched the Nokia 6.1 Plus in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Provided the smartphone is not launched in any other market before August 21, India could well be the third market where the Nokia 6.1 Plus will be launched.

We expect the Nokia 6.1 Plus to be priced at somewhere around Rs.20,000, which would make it a rival to smartphones like the Vivo V9 and the OPPO F7 4GB RAM variant. Similar to the OPPO F7 and Vivo V9, the Nokia 6.1 Plus comes with a notched display and dual cameras on the back with AI-powered features like intelligent scene detection and portrait mode. Under the hood, Nokia 6.1 Plus runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 octa-core processor, which is a good upgrade over the Snapdragon 626 chipset powering the Vivo V9 but slightly slower in benchmarks when compared to the MediaTek Helio P60. Real-world performance, however, should be very similar or even slightly better.

OPPO F9 Pro

The Nokia 6.1 Plus will not be the only new smartphone that will be launched in India on the 21st of August. Chinese smartphone maker OPPO will be launching its F series F9 Pro smartphone in India on the same date. The F9 Pro will be a slightly upgraded variant of the existing F7, featuring a teardrop notch design. According to reports, the F9 Pro will be priced around Rs.30,000 in India, which would mean the smartphone will take on devices like the ASUS ZenFone 5Z and Honor 10 in the Indian market.

OPPO F9 Pro India Launch

However, unlike the ZenFone 5Z and the Honor 10, the F9 Pro will be running on a mid-range MediaTek Helio P60 SoC, the same processor that does duty inside the F7 and the RealMe 1. Compared to the F7, however, the F9 Pro will prove to be a decent upgrade thanks to a slightly bigger battery with fast charging support and the updated design.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will apparently be launched in India on the 22nd of August. The flagship Samsung phablet is expected to be priced above Rs.70,000 in India for the 128GB storage variant. While it has not yet been confirmed, there is a good chance that Samsung will launch the 512GB variant as well in India. The 512GB variant, as you would expect, will probably cost somewhere close to Rs.85,000 in India. Its predecessor, the Galaxy Note 8, was launched in India at Rs.67,990 last year. However, you should also keep in mind that the Galaxy Note 9 comes with twice the amount of storage as the Galaxy Note 8.

As far as availability is concerned, it is expected that the Galaxy Note 9 will be going on sale in India starting from early September. Pre-orders, however, will likely open soon after the phablet’s formal launch in the country. Thanks to the key upgrades like a beefier 4000mAh capacity battery, S Pen with Bluetooth connectivity, intelligent 12MP + 12MP dual-camera setup, and a whopping 512GB of onboard storage, the Galaxy Note 9 could prove to be quite popular among Samsung fans in India.
