Indians are all set to celebrate their 72nd Independence Day coming August 15th and to commemorate this special day are three blockbuster launches & offers from India’s biggest corporate houses. Here is what you can look forward to this Independence Day:
The launch of JioPhone 2:
Jio is largely basking on the glory of its stellar performance in the telecom segment. It has also extended its success in the feature phone market, with its JioPhone, where it is now the market leader. Not it looks to extend its lead and improve penetration with the introduction of the JioPhone 2, which is an upgrade on the original. The device is priced at just Rs. 2,999 and can be purchased from either MyJio Apps or Jio.com. The device features a qwerty keypad and a four-way navigation button.
But most importantly, the device comes preloaded with the most popular apps such as Facebook, YouTube and WhatsApp. Currently, users of JioPhone need to download these apps from the store in KaiOS. Moreover, the phones didn’t have native support for these apps, as the features were limited. Now with the inclusion of these apps and exclusive offers, Jio is all set to expand its feature phone market in the country in the upcoming months.
Apart from making an impression in the feature phone market, Jio is also entering the broadband internet service industry, with the launch of Jio GigaFiber. The Mukesh Ambani owned company is all set to accept registrations for its GigaFiber services starting from the 15th of August. Jio GigaFiber is a broadband initiative that is looking to target residential as well as SME businesses. Much like its telecom counterpart, the broadband services are most likely to be low cost, with initial suggestions that plans could start as low as Rs. 500.
The broadband service will, however, offer ultra-fast internet connectivity through its fibre optic cable network, unlike traditional internet service providers, who only offer leased line connections via a fibre optic cable network. This provides lossless data transmission, which means higher Internet Speeds. As per initial suggestions, the network is set to be delivering speeds starting from 50Mbps all the way up to 150Mbps, which is significantly higher than current conventional Internet Service Providers. The company is targeting a large untapped potential, as it looks to offer the high-speed broadband services in over 1,100 cities across the country.
India’s own e-commerce giant, Flipkart, is all set to launch its own loyalty programme to help retain its customers. Dubbed as “Flipkart Plus”, the programme is set to take on its fierce rival Amazon, who has its own Prime services. The company has just recently concluded a deal with Wal-Mart, which will see the American giant take a majority stake in the company, and has now turned its sights to battle Amazon’s stellar rise in popularity, owing to its Prime Services, which has close to a whopping 10 Million users in India.
Flipkart is expected to offer loyalty points to subscribers on the purchase of items. This loyalty points can be used to avail early shipping or free delivery or even exclusive/priority access to newly launched products with the retailer. Members will also be given priority access to events like Big Billion Day or Freedom Sale. The loyalty points will be awarded in the form of a digital currency called “Plus coins”, which users can exchange on its website to avail the benefits on offer. The advantage Flipkart has over Amazon is that Flipkart Plus is open to all Flipkart users as they needn’t subscribe to this service, unlike Amazon Prime.
