Just a day after annoucing its Oppo R17 flagship, the Chinese OEM has confirmed the presence of a Pro version of its top-end smartphone. News of the Oppo R17 Pro was hovering around for quite some time now, however, it’s the first time Oppo is officially confirming the presence of the alleged smartphone. In addition to that, Oppo has also revealed that its R17 Pro will come with a variable lens aperture, the first of its kind in an Oppo device.
Oppo R17 Pro: Variable Lens Aperture
The Oppo R17 Pro is expected to be an improved version of its sibling, Oppo R17 that was launched recently. Though, this one will also be a lot more expensive. That being said the teaser image released by the brand on the Chinese social media platform Weibo reveals a near identical design. The most striking revelation is, however, is its camera. According to Oppo, the all-new R17 Pro will come with a variable aperture rear camera. This new feature will help in capturing stunning low light photos with the R17 Pro. Essentially, the variable aperture will help users to select a wider aperture i.e. a smaller f point for shooting in low light scenario. A larger aperture would, in turn, result in more light hitting the camera sensor, and thereby ultimately resulting in a crisper image.
With that said, the Oppo R17 Pro won’t be the first smartphone to come with such a camera technology, rather, Korean smartphone manufacturer Samsung unveiled the world’s first phone with a variable aperture technology in the form of its Galaxy S9 Plus. The recently launched Samsung Galaxy Note 9 comes with a similar technology. Tipsters believe that the Oppo R17 Pro may also come with a triple rear camera setup, something similar to the one seen in the Huawei P20 Pro. The third sensor in Oppo’ case is rumored to function as a zoom lens. Moreover, the Weibo post also confirms that the Oppo R17 Pro will have variable apertures between f/1.7 and f/2.4.
Oppo R17 Pro: Specifications, Features
Before being officially leaked by Oppo, the alleged R17 Pro has made a number of online appearances. The most notable ang those was on GeekBench benchmark certification platform. The premium Oppo device was spotted on GeekBench site on August 13 with a model number Oppo PBEM00. The benchmark listing all but reveals the specifications of the smartphone. Unlike the Oppo R17, the Pro version of the smartphone is seen boasting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 octa-core Mobile Platform. This is supposed to be the latest and great mid-range processor from the American chip maker. Alongside the Snapdragon 710, the Oppo R17 Pro is seen sporting 8GB RAM and running on Android Oreo 8.1 in the benchmark listing.
Apart from these, the Oppo R17 Pro is expected to share the rest of its specification with its cheaper sibling. Just like the Oppo R17, it will also sport a premium end-to-end AMOLED display, however, the display size may be slightly larger than 6.4 inches. The panel will further come with Coring Gorilla Glass 6 protection. The R17 Pro is also rumored to come with a 25MP selfie snapper in addition to variable aperture rear camera setup.
The handset may come with a 3500mAH or slightly larger battery with support for VOOC fast charging. Apparently, Oppo currently has the fastest charging technology in the market, courtesy its Super VOOC fast charging, found in its Find X smartphone. The Pro version of the Oppo R17 will also come with an in-display fingerprint sensor, 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.0, A-GPS and a ton of other essential sensors.
Oppo R17 Pro: Launch Date, Price
Oppo hasn’t announced any official launch date for the smartphone yet. Considering, Oppo has already started teasing its upcoming phone, we can expect the Oppo R17 Pro to launch in a few weeks. The Oppo R17, on the other hand, will go on sale in China on August 18.
