Motorola today launched the flagship Moto Z3 and budget-oriented Moto E5 Plus smartphones in China. While the Chinese variants of these two smartphones are similar to the global versions for the most part, there are a few key differences.
Moto Z3: Specifications, Features
Announced globally earlier this month, the Moto Z3 is the latest Motorola Z series flagship smartphone. The handset sports a 6.01-inch Super AMOLED display with 1080 x 2160 Full HD+ resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top. Powering the flagship smartphone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core chipset clocked at 2.45 GHz with an Adreno 540 GPU. Most flagship smartphones launched this year are powered by the newer and more powerful Snapdragon 845 chipset inside, so the Moto Z3 is a little disappointing in the performance department. Motorola has paired the Snapdragon 835 SoC on the Z3 with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The smartphone supports further expansion up to 2TB thanks to a microSD card slot.
In the camera department, Moto Z3 features a 12MP + 12MP dual-camera setup on the back with a primary RGB sensor and a secondary monochrome sensor. In addition to AI-powered Portrait photography and intelligent scene recognition, the camera supports Cinemagraphs and Google Lens as well. For selfies, the Moto Z3 comes with an 8MP snapper on the front with an f/2.0 aperture, 1.12um pixel size, and screen flash for low-light selfies.
Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, NFC, USB Type-C, and 4G VoLTE. Fueling the internals of the smartphone is a 3000mAh capacity battery with Turbocharging support. Unlike most other smartphones, the Moto Z3 has the fingerprint sensor positioned on the right side instead of at the rear.
Moto Z3: Price, Availability
The Moto Z3 will be available in China starting tomorrow at 3,999 yuan (Rs.40,600 approx.).
Moto Z3: Moto Mods
In addition to the Moto Z3, Motorola also launched the Moto 5G mod at the event, which adds 5G connectivity to the smartphone. Apart from adding 5G network support, the Moto Mod includes a 2000mAh built-in battery as well, which will help extend battery life further. The 5G Moto Mod utilizes Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X50 modem as well as millimeter wave components.
The flagship Moto Z3 is also compatible with the Hasselblad TrueZoom Camera Moto Mod that offers a dedicated camera shutter key, xenon flash, and a 1/2.3” type optically-stabilized sensor.
Moto E5 Plus: Specifications, Features
The Moto E5 Plus, which is already on sale in India, comes with a 6-inch HD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. Its key highlight, as most of you will be aware, is the large 5000mAh capacity battery with 18W fast charging support. However, unlike the variant sold in India, the Chinese variant of the Moto E5 Plus sports dual rear cameras.
Moto E5 Plus: Price, Availability
The Moto E5 Plus is priced at 1,299 yuan (Rs.13,200 approx.) for the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant, while the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant is priced at 1,699 yuan (Rs.17,300 appox.).
Moto P30: Specifications, Features
The Moto P30 sports a 6.2-inch notched display with Full HD+ resolution, a 19:9 aspect ratio, and 2.5D curved glass layer on top. Powering the P30 is an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor, coupled with 6GB of RAM for impressive gaming performance. In terms of storage, the Moto P30 is available with either 64GB or 128GB of onboard storage. Motorola says that it is using AI-powered graphics acceleration to ensure users can enjoy a smooth gaming experience. Featuring an iPhone X-inspired design, the P30 sports a 16MP + 5MP dual-camera setup at the rear with AI-powered features, an AR mode, and an LED flash. At the front is a 12MP resolution selfie snapper with AI-powered Portrait Mode and beautification features. Keeping the lights on is a 3000mAh capacity with 18W fast charging support. The Moto P30 comes with both a fingerprint sensor as well as Face Unlock support. While the P30 does not come with an IP rating, it does feature a water-repellent nano-coating.
Moto P30: Price, Availability
The Moto P30 will go on sale in China starting September 15th in Black, White, and Purple + Blue gradient color options. Motorola has priced the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage variant at 2,099 yuan (Rs.21,300 approx.) and the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant at 2,499 yuan (Rs.25,400 approx.).
