Reliance Jio started accepting registrations for the Jio Gigafiber yesterday, more than a month after its official announcement, alongside JioPhone 2, at the 41st Reliance Annual General Meeting by Mukesh Ambani. The “smart” feature phone, the successor of the Jio Phone, the Jio Phone 2 will be going on sale today for the first time on Jio.com.
JioPhone 2: First Sale Today on Jio.com
The JioPhone 2 will be available for purchase in a flash sale that will be held on Jio.com exactly at 12 PM. Since it is a flash sale, we expect a limited number of units to be up for grabs, which means the phone may run out of stock within minutes of the sale kicking off.
JioPhone 2 users will be able to choose from Rs.49, Rs.99, and Rs.153 prepaid plans. The Rs.49 plan comes with 1GB of data, free voice calls, 50 SMS, and access to Jio apps for a period of 28 days. You get the same validity period on the other two plans as well, although with higher data and SMS benefits. The Rs.99 plan offers 14GB of data and 300 free SMS, while the Rs.153 plan gets you 42GB of data along with unlimited SMS.
JioPhone 2: Price in India, Offers
The Reliance JioPhone 2 is priced at Rs.2,999, making it significantly more expensive than the JioPhone, which offers very similar specifications. There are no launch offers either, so you will not be able to save any money when purchasing the JioPhone 2 today. If you simply want a feature phone that you can use as a secondary device, you should consider the JioPhone, which is still on sale. As part of the Jio Monsoon Hungama exchange offer, you can get the JioPhone for just Rs.501 when you exchange your old feature phone. This means you can grab a JioPhone for Rs.2,498 less than the JioPhone 2. While it is possible that Jio might announce a similar exchange offer for the JioPhone 2 as well in the future, no such announcement has been made so far.
JioPhone 2: Specifications, Features
The JioPhone 2 sports a design that is reminiscent of classic BlackBerry phones with a QWERTY keypad on the front. While the design of the feature phone is quite different from the JioPhone, the display size remains identical at 2.4-inch. The TFT LCD panel offers 320 x 240, which isn’t all that bad for a feature phone. Under the hood, the JioPhone 2 is powered by an unnamed dual-core processor clocked at 1 GHz. It features 4GB of internal memory and 512MB of RAM, identical to its predecessor. You can also expand the storage further by up to 128GB thanks to a microSD card slot.
At the rear is a 2MP primary camera, while at the front is a 0.3MP VGA resolution snapper for selfies and video calls. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 Low Energy, GPS, NFC, 4G VoLTE, and VoWiFi. Unlike the JioPhone, the JioPhone 2 includes 2 SIM card slots. The JioPhone 2 packs a 2000mAh capacity battery, claimed to provide about 6 hours of talk time and standby time of around 150 hours. When it comes to software, the JioPhone 2 runs on the KaiOS, which is now the second most popular mobile operating system in India after Google’s Android, thanks to the overwhelming popularity of the JioPhone. The JioPhone 2 comes with Jio apps such as MyJio, JioMusic, JioTV, JioCinema, JioXpressNews, Voice Assistant, JioVideoCall, JioGames, and more pre-installed. You can also download popular apps like Facebook, YouTube, and more from the JioStore app. You also get a voice assistant with voice enabled search, browser, calculator, alarm, calendar, gallery, and more features. You can even connect the phone to a CRT or Smart TV using the JioMediaCable, which is sold as a separate accessory. The phone supports 22 Indian languages – Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Dogri, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Maithili, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Santhali, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
