Motorola today launched its first smartphone with a notched display at an event held in China. Dubbed the Moto P30, the smartphone comes with a design that seems to have been “inspired” by the iPhone X. The Moto P30 is not the only new smartphone that went official today. Chinese smartphone maker OPPO unveiled its latest F series smartphone, the F9. Since both the smartphones are quite comparable in terms of specs, we decided to pit these two new smartphones against each other in a spec comparison. To make things more interesting, we have also added the Lenovo Z5 to the mix.
Moto P30 vs OPPO F9 vs Lenovo Z5: Price
The Moto P30 starts at 2,099 yuan in China, which translates to Rs.21,300 based on the current exchange rate. OPPO F9 was launched in Vietnam earlier today, where it was been priced at VND 7,990,000 or approximately Rs.24,000. Lenovo Z5 is the most affordable of the three smartphones, starting at 1,299 yuan (Rs.13,300 approx.) in China.

The Moto P30 sports a design that is very similar to the iPhone X with a wide notch at the top and dual cameras at the rear stacked vertically. OPPO F9 has water drop notch design with a much smaller notch than most other smartphones. It features a gradient colour design at the rear, similar to flagship Huawei smartphones. Lenovo’s Z5 has an impressive screen-to-body ratio as well, along with a glass back.
When it comes to display size, the OPPO F9 has a slight edge over the other two smartphones as it comes with a 6.3-inch LTPS IPS display featuring 1080 x 2340 Full HD+ resolution and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Both the Moto P30 and Lenovo Z5 sport 6.2-inch sized IPS LCD displays with 1080 x 2246 Full HD+ resolution and a 19:9 aspect ratio. Overall, all the three smartphones are very similar in the design and display departments, although the OPPO F9 does have a slight edge as it has the largest display and the smallest notch of the three.

The Moto P30 runs on an octa-core 14nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor clocked at 1.8 GHz with an Adreno 509 GPU taking care of the graphics processing. It comes in two memory configurations – 6GB RAM + 64GB storage and 6GB RAM + 128GB storage. For further expansion, the smartphone includes Hybrid Dual-SIM card slots. OPPO F9 runs on an octa-core 12nm MediaTek Helio P60 processor clocked at 2.0 GHz, coupled with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM. It comes with 64GB of onboard storage, which can be expanded further up to 256GB thanks to a microSD card slot. Lenovo Z5 is powered by a Snapdragon 636 SoC under the hood, coupled with 6GB of RAM. It comes in two storage options – 64GB and 128GB. The smartphone features Hybrid Dual-SIM slots, so users can expand the storage further. Overall, all the three smartphones are very similar in terms of hardware specifications.

The Moto P30 is equipped with a 16MP + 5MP AI dual-camera setup at the rear with an f/1.8 aperture, AI Portrait Mode, and AI-powered intelligent scene recognition. For selfies, the P30 has a 12MP snapper at the front with AI beatification and AI Face Unlock features. OPPO F9 sports a 16MP + 2MP AI dual-camera setup at the rear with both the sensors coupled with f/1.85 aperture lenses. OPPO says the AI camera on the F9 can intelligently detect 16 different scenes to help users capture great shots easily. The 25MP selfie camera comes with an f/2.0 aperture and an AI HDR mode. Lenovo Z5 has a 16MP + 8MP AI dual-camera setup at the rear with an AI Portrait and AI Night Mode features. At the front of the Lenovo Z5 is an 8MP selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture, AI beautification, and AI Face Unlock features.
While the rear cameras on the three smartphones all have a 16MP primary sensor and come with a host of AI features, the OPPO F9 is the clear winner for all the selfie lovers out there with its 25MP unit.
Moto P30 vs OPPO F9 vs Lenovo Z5: Battery Life, OS
The Moto P30 is fueled by a 3000mAh capacity battery with 18W TurboCharge fast charging support. OPPO’s latest F series smartphone packs a 3500mAh capacity battery with VOOC Flash Charge support. OPPO claims the F9 can deliver up to two hours of talk time from just 5 minutes of charging. Lenovo Z5 has a slightly smaller 3300mAh capacity battery with fast charging support. When it comes to software, all three smartphones run on the Android 8.1 Oreo operating system.
Quite clearly, the OPPO F9 is going to be your best bet if you care more about battery life than anything else.
Moto P30 vs OPPO F9 vs Lenovo Z5: Conclusion
As we have seen in our comparison above, the Moto P30, OPPO F9, and Lenovo Z5 are very similar to each other in many areas. However, the Lenovo Z5 is significantly cheaper than the other two smartphones, so from a value perspective, the Lenovo smartphone is a better option. On the other hand, if you are someone who loves to capture selfies often and wants a smartphone that offers impressive battery life, the OPPO F9 is more ideal. The Moto P30 will appeal to consumers who prefer stock Android and find the iPhone X-inspired design to be quite attractive.
