Kerala is in deep waters right now, literally, and even though rescue efforts are underway, the situation is still not under control. Because of continuous heavy rainfall in the past week, and even now, several regions in the state are badly flooded. Over 80 people have lost their lives, hundreds of houses damaged, and the entire state is shaken.
The state has opened the shutters of about 35 dams to ease the rising levels of water, but in vain. The situation is bad, and this is the worst flood that Kerala has experience since the flood of 1924. Kochi International Airport has been shut as airplanes are submerged in water and the areas around the airport including runways are all flooded. Bus services and trains are not working in most flood hit areas.
Rescue operations are well underway, with several teams of the army, navy, and the NDRF (National Disaster Relief Force) working in the state. More help is needed, and to make things a little easier for the people, network operators are also helping out. We already told you how Airtel is giving free 1GB data pack to all its users in Kerala, and also a talktime credit of Rs. 30. The carrier has also kept several of its stores open, so people in need can use free Wi-Fi and make free calls.
Now, Vodafone has also issued a press release, stating similar initiatives for its users in Kerala. The carrier also wants to help out and provide some relief in communications. Many places do not have internet connectivity or even electricity. People in those regions can make use of the extra data and free talk-time.
Vodafone India, as a value based organization, cares for people and believes that every life saved, every distress call connected makes an invaluable difference.
Just like Airtel, Vodafone is also giving 1GB of data to its users in Kerala. The carrier is also giving Rs. 30 talktime for free to all prepaid users. Bill payment dates have also been extended for postpaid users.

Other Initiatives by Vodafone
Apart from the free credit and 1GB of data, the carrier has also sent out some of its employees, partners, and other supports to help in rescue and relief. Those who need help and assistance can also head to the nearest Vodafone store as well.
We have mobilized our vast network of employees, customers, partners, vendors and supporters for relief work, channelizing our resources and efforts to the best of our ability, to provide help and assistance to the affected people in this hour of need.
So yes, all the carriers are helping out in this hour of need. Communication is important during such calamities, and that little extra credit or data can save a life. Other carriers, such as Jio is also helping out the people of the state with similar initiatives. Let us hope and pray for the people in Kerala, and also help out however possible.
