According to an exclusive report published by 91Mobiles, Vivo will be launching a new Y series smartphone in the Indian market very soon. The upcoming smartphone, dubbed Y83 Pro, will reportedly succeed the Y83, which was launched in the country just a few months back.
Vivo Y83 Pro: Expected to Launch in India Soon
While no specific release date has been mentioned in the report, it does say that the smartphone is expected to arrive in India “in the coming weeks”. Vivo usually does not hold dedicated launch events for its budget smartphones, so we expect the Y83 Pro to be made official silently, just like its predecessor. However, it should be noted that Vivo has not announced a smartphone called the Y83 Pro in any market yet, so it could be a device that has been customized specifically with the Indian consumer in mind.
Vivo Y83 Pro: Specifications, Features
The Vivo Y83 Pro will reportedly feature a 6.22-inch FullView 2.0 display with a notch at the top, likely the exact same panel used in the Y83. While the display resolution has not been mentioned in the report, it is possible that the Y83 Pro will come with the same 720 x 1520 HD+ resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio as the Y83. The handset is expected to be powered by a MediaTek chipset, coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. For further expansion, the smartphone will include a microSD card slot as well. At the rear is said to be a 13MP + 2MP dual-camera setup instead of a single 13MP snapper on the Y83. For selfies and video calls, the Y83 Pro will have an 8MP snapper at the front. Similar to the Y83, we expect the Vivo Y83 Pro to offer AI Face Beauty, Portrait Mode, and Face Unlock features. The AI Face Beauty feature detects the user’s gender, age, skin tone, skin texture, and lighting environment to bring out their “unique natural beauty” using customized beauty enhancement effects.
The smartphone is expected to pack a 3260mAh capacity battery, which is again identical to the Vivo Y83. There is no mention of fast charging support, so it seems unlikely that the Y83 successor will come with the feature. Some of the other key specifications mentioned in the report include a 7.7mm thin profile and Android 8.1 Oreo-based Funtouch OS 4.0 software. Since the majority of the handset’s specifications appear identical to the Y83, we expect rest of the spec sheet to be very similar as well. In terms of connectivity, we expect the Y83 Pro to support Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, FM radio, and 4G VoLTE. We also expect the Vivo Y83 Pro to come with the Smart Split feature, which allows users to split the screen in two to allow them to watch videos and chat with their friends at the same time. The Smart Split feature currently supports a limited number of apps such as Facebook, Line, Messages, Viber, WeChat, WhatsApp, BBM, Play Movies & TV, YouTube, Video, MX Player, VLC for Android, Chrome, and Gmail. More apps are expected to be supported in the near future.
Vivo Y83 Pro: Expected Price in India
The report claims the Vivo Y83 Pro will be priced at somewhere around Rs.16,000 in India, which would make it a direct rival to smartphones like the Nokia 6.1, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, and the Android One Mi A2. Its predecessor, the Vivo Y83 was launched in India at a market operating price of Rs.14,990 in May this year.
