Popular smartphone makers OPPO and HMD Global will be launching two exciting new smartphones in India next week. While OPPO will debut its F9 Pro, HMD Global will be launching the Nokia 6.1 Plus in the country. Even though both the smartphones have quite a few noteworthy features, we wouldn’t recommend waiting for them as Xiaomi’s Mi A2 offers a few significant advantages over both the smartphones.
Lower Price
The Xiaomi Mi A2 is priced at Rs.16,999 in India for the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant. For now, the Android One smartphone is available in a single configuration in the Indian market. However, Xiaomi has confirmed that the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant of the Mi A2 will also be launched here soon. OPPO F9 Pro is expected to be priced closer to Rs.30,000, while the Nokia 6.1 Plus is expected to be priced just under Rs.20,000 in India.
Snapdragon 660 AIE Processor
Xiaomi Mi A2 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 AIE processor. The powerful 14nm processor uses Kryo 260 CPU cores clocked at 2.2 GHz and comes with an Adreno 512 GPU to handle the graphics processing. In comparison, the OPPO F9 Pro runs on a 12nm MediaTek Helio P60 chipset, while the Nokia 6.1 Plus runs on an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset under the hood. When it comes to both benchmark as well as real-world performance, the Snapdragon 660 has the edge over both these processors.
12MP + 20MP AI Dual Rear Cameras
The Xiaomi Mi A2 features a highly impressive 12MP + 20MP AI dual-camera setup with both the sensors coupled with large f/1.75 aperture. While the primary Sony IMX486 12MP sensor boasts 1.25um sized pixels, the secondary 20MP Sony IMX376 sensor utilizes a 4-in-1 pixel binning technique to achieve 2.0um pixel size. In comparison, OPPO F9 Pro features a 16MP + 2MP dual-camera setup at the rear with f/1.85 apertures and AI-powered features like scene recognition and AI portrait mode. Nokia 6.1 Plus has a 16MP RGB + 5MP monochrome dual-camera setup at the rear with the primary sensor coupled with an f/2.0 aperture and the secondary sensor coupled with an f/2.2 aperture. Out of the three smartphones, only the Mi A2 supports video recording at 4K resolution.
Quick Charge 4+ Support
The Xiaomi Mi A2 is the only smartphone on sale in India currently to come with Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ support. So while the Mi A2 may have a smaller battery compared to the OPPO F9 Pro and the Nokia 6.1 Plus, it offers faster charging speeds when compared to both the smartphones. The OPPO F9 Pro packs a 3500mAh capacity battery with VOOC Flash charge support, while the Nokia 6.1 Plus features a 3060mAh capacity battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support for fast charging. However, you should note that the Mi A2 does not ship with a Quick Charge 4+ compatible charger in the box. You will need to purchase a compatible charger separately to be able to enjoy the faster charging speeds enabled by the Quick Charge 4+ standard.
IR Blaster
Like most Xiaomi smartphones, the Mi A2 is equipped with an IR blaster. This means you can use the Mi A2 as a universal remote to control all your electronic devices such as TV, set-top box, and more. And to do so, you do not necessarily need to have the device in the line of sight. You will be able to control your home entertainment devices even from a different room. The OPPO F9 Pro and the Nokia 6.1 Plus both lack an IR blaster.
