A retail box of the Honor 8X has surfaced. The packaging specifically indicates the mid-range Android smartphone will have AI-powered features

Honor 8X

Honor 8X, a smartphone with an extra-large 7.12-inch display, recently made an appearance on the TENNA certification authority’s website. The smartphone from Huawei’s sub-brand Honor now has a retail box that reveals the packaging, lending even more credibility to the impending launch of the large-screened smartphone.

Chinese regulatory authority TENNA recently certified a new Honor smartphone. The device sported a beautiful valley notched-screen display. Incidentally, the Honor 8X may also be the Honor Enjoy 8S. However, a credible proof that confirms the name of the Honor smartphone has surfaced. The Honor 8X retail packaging box has leaked online. The picture shows a teal-colored rectangular box with “8X” boldly written on it.

There’s even an acronym AI, which presumably stands for Artificial Intelligence, accompanying the 8X marking. The marking clearly indicates Honor 8X will have many features powered by artificial intelligence. The name of the Huawei’s sub-brand is also crested at the bottom. Combining the elements on the retail box, it becomes amply clear that Honor 8X is almost ready to hit the shelves. With the device nearing retail, let’s look at its specifications and features.

Honor 8X: Specifications and Features

The Honor 8X appeared on the TENAA with the codename Honor ARE-AL00 model. The specifications revealed on the regulatory authority’s website indicate that Honor 8X is a capable Android smartphone with mid-range specifications.

The Honor 8X sports a large 7.12-inch IPS LCD screen, with a resolution of 2244 x 1080. With the screen size, the smartphone can be easily considered as a tablet. However, owing to a nifty design, the increased screen-to-body ratio, taller display and slimmer bezels, the device manages to qualify as a smartphone or phablet.

The Honor smartphone features an octa-core processor of 1.8 GHz. It is likely that the chipset is HiSilicon Kirin 710 SoC. The smartphone has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. Huawei has even offered a micro-SD card slot for expanding storage up to 256GB.

For imaging, the Honor 8X sports 16 MP+ 2 MP dual-camera at the back. The rather small 2MP sensor is likely meant for gathering depth sensing information and creating images with Bokeh effects. The device has an 8MP front camera for selfies and video-calling. Alongside the rear camera, Honor has embedded a fingerprint scanner. However, the smartphone may have AI-powered Face Unlock option as well.

The dimensions of the device are 177.57 x 86.24 x 8.13 mm and it will weigh 210 grams, making it a reasonably heavy smartphone when compared to other devices. The Honor 8X runs on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box along with EMUI 8 UI custom layer.

The most notable feature of the Honor 8X, besides the large display, is undoubtedly the huge battery. The smartphone gets a massive 4,900mAh battery. Moreover, the smartphone could support, and may even include, an 18W fast charging charger.

Honor 8X: Expected Launch Date, Price, and Availability

Honor has not officially confirmed the existence of Honor 8X. It has not begun promoting or even hinting about the smartphone. The specifications are obtained from the Chinese regulatory authority, and Honor has not officially confirmed the same. The image of the retail box, too, recently leaked online. The box too, doesn’t offer many details about the phablet.

Given the specifications, the Honor 8X clearly appears to be a mid-range Android smartphone. Users who want a large screen, and long-lasting battery, will certainly appreciate the phablet. Moreover, the smartphone will feature the Master AI feature.  Essentially, AI may try to adjust the camera settings, including scene detection, to offer better output.

There is currently no confirmed information about the launch date. However, Huawei is present at the IFA 2018 trade show in Berlin, which is going to start from August 31. It is quite likely that its sub-brand may launch the Honor 8X at the IFA. We at MSP Gear will certainly keep our readers updated about any new information about the smartphone.
