The OPPO Find X checks a lot of boxes when it comes to being the first in the smartphone industry. It can check yet another box; being the first Android smartphone to get support for the WeChat Face Payment feature.

OPPO Find X: First Android Phone to Support WeChat Face Payment Feature

WeChat for Android recently got an update to push its version to 6.7.2, with the Face ID authentication becoming compatible for devices running Google’s operating system. Now here is the problem; not a lot of Android smartphones come with 3D facial recognition and Face Unlock does not count. However, the OPPO Find X has become the first Android smartphone to provide support for this feature, which only means that in the future, other devices will eventually gain compatibility to make payments via face mapping.

In case you are wondering about the technology running in OPPO’s Find X, it utilizes the OPPO FaceKey 3D structured light technology to build a complete 3D face map of the user through 15,000 invisible dots that are projected straight on your face. The user’s facial data acquisition takes only 0.03 seconds to complete.

To make this feature compatible with the Find X, OPPO and WeChat formed an alliance with a few rules abiding towards safeguarding the user’s facial information. The WeChat face payment supports TENCENT SOTER biometrics to ensure that the user’s facial information is not uploaded to any server, with all steps being carried in TEE, or Trusted Execution Environment. This will ensure that information cannot be tampered with for illicit purposes. More devices will eventually get support for the WeChat Face Payment feature, but for now, it is the OPPO Find X.

OPPO Find X: Specifications, Features

The OPPO Find X has a gigantic 6.42-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display, with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. As of right now, the flagship has the highest screen-to-body ratio, standing at 93.8%. Future smartphones will most definitely feature a higher percentage than this, but the Find X is sitting on the throne at the moment. You will also be able to find a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection present at the front side of the smartphone that protects the screen from getting damaged.

The software side of things allows the smartphone to run Android 8.1 Oreo-based ColorOS 5.1. There is also a Snapdragon 845 chipset that will be responsible for all the necessary performance, and it is paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of non-expandable internal storage.

The OPPO Find X is able to achieve its high screen-to-body ratio using motorized cameras. At the rear part of the flagship, the Find X sports a dual-camera setup with a 16 + 20MP configuration that works through a sliding mechanism and supports things like AI portraits and AI Scene Recognition. There is also a 25MP selfie snapper at the front with a f/2.0 aperture, with the AI-assisted 3D Camera supporting things like 3D lighting with artistic filters.

There is also a generous 3730mAh battery with VOOC fast-charging support, but no option for wireless charging. The connectivity options that you get range from 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0 with LE support, a USB-Type C port, and GPS. Sadly, the phone does not have a 3.5mm headphone jack, but it does ship with a USB Type-C to audio jack adapter.

OPPO Find X: Price in India, Availability
