Asus is sending another OTA update to the popular Asus Zenfone 5Z smartphone. This time, the update adds several premium features. Interestingly, this update appears majorly focused on the imaging department, apart from fixing bugs and improving stability of wireless networks.
Asus Zenfone 5Z has so far proven to be an excellent device in the mid-range Android smartphone category. It confidently competes with several smartphones that are priced higher, and some that even qualify to be called premium devices. Asus recently released an OTA (Over-The-Air) update that allowed users to taste the gesture-based navigation system. The system is present in the latest Android 9 Pie, the next evolutionary step in the smartphone operating system.
Asus Zenfone 5Z Gets Lift To Face Unlock and Other Features
The latest update unlocks several features that are often found only in premium smartphones. With the latest (FOTA) Firmware Over-The-Air package, the Asus Zenfone 5Z gets a dozen new functionalities including 10 for the camera, alongside four camera improvements.
Owing to previous updates, some of the most notable improvements for the camera include the possibility of shooting in RAW Mode, which allows photography enthusiasts to retain a lot more data about the uncompressed image. The recent update allows users to switch off either OIS or EIS in certain situations. EIS can be switched on for 1080p 60FPS video recording or 18:9 at 30FPS video capture. Users can also let the camera switch to either OIS or EIS depending upon the conditions.
The smartphone will now support an Auto Anti-Flicker feature. Essentially, the Zenfone 5Z will now be able to automatically detect lighting conditions and switch the frequency setting between 50Hz and 60Hz to prevent flickering.
The PRO mode in photography now has 3D Noise Reduction feature. Users can also turn on the flash in this mode. Interestingly, the smartphone will now be able to detect overheating while recording video. Asus has also included Live Filters and Panorama feature in the camera as well. The company promises it has improved the HDR Mode, and manual White Balance function in PRO mode, among other tweaks.
The most notable feature that the FOTA update adds, however, is the Lift To Face Unlock. The feature makes it very easy, convenient and fast to use the Face Unlock feature. Essentially, the unlock feature now eliminates the need to press the Power button every time the user wants to unlock the Asus Zenfone 5Z with the Face Unlock feature.
