Oppo officially unveiled its latest offering, the Oppo R17 and R17 Pro about a week ago. We just reported on how the R17 would be going on its first sale in China yesterday. After mere hours of the sale going live, Oppo took to the popular Chinese microblogging site Weibo to thank its fans as the phone’s sales had set a brand new record. While the exact number of units sold hasn’t yet been disclosed, Oppo did let its fans know that R17 has set a new record with regards to the number of devices sold online on the first sale in the CNY 3000-4000 price segment.

Oppo R17, R17 Pro: Price, Sale details

The Oppo R17 went on Sale in China yesterday on leading online retail sites including JingDong, TMall and Suning. The phone’s 6GB RAM + 128 GB storage configuration is priced at 3,199 yuan (Rs.33,000 approx.). An 8GB RAM + 128GB storage model is also offered for (Rs.36,200 approx.). Colour options include Twilight Blue, Starry Purple, and Fog Gradient.

The next sale of this device in China is expected to be on September 7. The higher specced Oppo R17 Pro, on the other hand, is expected to go on sale sometime mid-October. That phone costs 4,299 yuan (Rs.43,900 approx.).

Oppo R17: Specifications, Features

The Oppo R17 boasts a 6.4-inch AMOLED screen that comes with a waterdrop notch. This display offers a 1080 x 2280 Full HD+ resolution and a 19:9 aspect ratio. The screen-to-body ratio is an impressive 91.5 percent. For protection, the screen will have a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 6 on top. Both the R17 and R17 Pro will be the first Oppo smartphones to feature in-display fingerprint scanners.

Powering the R17 is a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 octa-core processor clocked at 2.0 GHz paired with an Adreno 615 GPU. As we previously mentioned, the phone offers 6GB and 8GB RAM options while the storage is fixed at 128GB. However, the phone does offer a Hybrid Dual SIM card slot which allows users to expand the internal storage up to 256GB with a microSD card.

Moving on to optics, OPPO R17 features a 16MP + 5MP dual-camera setup with the primary sensor offering an f/1.8 aperture. The 5MP depth sensor contributes in offering AI Portrait Mode. The camera feature AI scene recognition, and is also equipped with the ability to shoot videos at up to 4K Ultra HD resolution. The waterdrop notch at the front houses a 25MP selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture, 3D Portrait Lighting, AI beautification modes, and Full HD video capture support.

Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, Dual 4G VoLTE, and a USB Type-C port. Powering this entire contraption is a 3500mAh capacity non-removable battery with VOOC Flash Charge technology. In terms of size, the smartphone measures 157.5 x 74.9 x 7.5mm and weighs in at 182 grams. It runs on the Android 8.1 Oreo-based ColorOS 5.2 by default.

Oppo R17 Pro: Specifications, Features

A similar 6.4-inch sized AMOLED display with a waterdrop notch but a slightly higher 1080 x 2340 Full HD+ resolution is found on the Oppo R17 Pro when compared to that of the Oppo R17. The phone also features an in-display fingerprint sensor and offers Gorilla Glass 6 protection. However, powering this device is the much faster Snapdragon 710 octa-core processor. Only one storage configuration will be offered for this phone with 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage space.

This phone will offer a triple camera setup at the back with f/1.5-2.4 variable aperture. The main camera measures 12MP, the secondary is a 20MP lens, and the third is a TOF 3D stereo camera. Selfies are handles by a 25MP front-face shooter. Fueling this device is a 3700mAh capacity battery with support for Super VOOC Charge that works over the included USB Type-C port.
