The Realme 2 is the newest offering from Realme, the sub-brand of Oppo that launched the impressive Realme 1 a while ago. It’s important to note that the Realme 2 is not the successor to Realme 1 — the Realme 2 is the lite version of the second generation series in a different price segment. And given how aggressive the budget smartphone shelves are these days, the question is: does this phone deliver the goods? The answer is a solid YES. The phone comes with everything a pampered smartphone user could expect — a gorgeous body, an immersive, minimal-bezel display, a humongous battery, and a rear dual camera that quite honestly might be the best in its class. And all this is powered by the efficient Snapdragon 450 processor. But that’s not where it ends — the best part about the phone is that you get all this at an unbelievable price of Rs. 8,990.
Realme 2: Price in India
The Flipkart-exclusive device will go up for sale on the 4th of September and will be available in two models and the colours available include Diamond Black and Diamond Red, while the Diamond Blue will be available from early October onwards. The base model, as mentioned earlier, will be priced at Rs. 8,990 and will offer 3GB of RAM paired with 32GB of onboard storage. The second model offers 4GB RAM and 64GB of onboard storage and will retail at Rs. 10,990. The dual-SIM Realme 2 supports expandable memory so you can add up to 256GB of additional storage thanks to the dedicated microSD slot.
Realme 2: Specifications and Features
First off, we could see a notable difference in the way the diamond-cut back appeared to our eyes, when compared to the Realme 1. We’re not sure how Realme pulls off this design but it has actually improved drastically. The Realme 2 comes with a 6.2-inch IPS LCD display, offering a resolution of 720 x 1520 pixels. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 3 and has an aspect ratio of 19:9 and a screen-to-body ratio of 88.8%, thanks to the notch.
Powering the Realme 2 is the octa-core Snapdragon 450 chipset, which in real-world conditions matches the SD625, beat for beat — which means you can expect similar performance even while playing resource heavy games like PUBG. It sure helps that the Realme 2 comes with a 4230mAh battery, and as expected, this phone lasts a long time on a single charge.
As for the camera, our initial tests were rather satisfying as the dual rear camera did not perform like a budget phone at all. While we are going to run some thorough tests, for now, we can vouch that the 13MP+2MP combo on the rear will snap some sweet photographs for you. As for the selfie camera, it is actually unbelievable how fast it unlocks your phone. We put it in a battle against some big flagships and here again, our initial impression is that it is as fast, if not faster when tested with decent lighting conditions (our office!).
All in all, the phone is definitely the go-to choice for anyone shopping for a smartphone under 10k. The competition just can’t beat the overall offering that this phone delivers, and that is a huge compliment to Realme.
