The 5G services in India are expected to go live by October according to India’s Information Technology Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw. The 5G auction kickstarted on July 26 in India and at the end of Day 1, four rounds of biddings took place and the first day saw bidding from Jio, Airtel, Vi, and Adani groups.
Reliance Jio has spent upwards of Rs 80,000 crore, while Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) spent Rs 45,000 crore and Rs 18,400 crore respectively on Day 1. The fifth round of auctions is being held right now. Based on the Day 1 analysis, Industry experts have predicted that Jio’s 5G service could be better than Vi and Airtel. Smartphone brands started launching 5G phones in India back in 2020 and eventually, in 2021 5G was common on most premium as well as mid-range phones.
Now, while we at halfway through 2022, we have multiple 5G phones under Rs 20,000 as well as under Rs 15,000 in India. But, one question that has remained constant over a couple of years is when do the common users get to use 5G on their smartphones. Well, now we have an answer for that.
Four rounds of 5G auction has been completed. So far it is expected that the revenue generated is around Rs 1,45,000 crores. We have to complete this process by August 14 & 5G service in the country will start by September-October: Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw pic.twitter.com/JDTTrigBvD

India’s 5G Service Launch Date Revealed
As of July 26th evening, Day 1 of the 5G auction has ended where four major players 一 Jio, Airtel, Vi, and Adani groups took part. The first four initial rounds have generated revenue of around Rs 1,45,000 crores and the 5G auction process is said to be completed by August 14.
Further, Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the 5G service in India will start by September-October. This means, the actual service of 5G could start as early as September, which is just a few weeks away from now.
However, before getting excited, it is worth informing you that, the timeline might be pushed ahead for multiple reasons and the 5G services might be available commercially to all 5G smartphone users only once the testing phase has been completed. We still don’t know the pricing of 5G from telcos like Jio, Airtel, and Vi for mobile data. But, the fifth-gen network is expected to bring a significant boost to mobile network speeds.
