Aadhaar card is one of the most important identification cards in India for all citizens. With a population of more than 1.2 billion, the Aadhaar card is one way for the government of India to identify all the individuals in India with a unique 12-digit code along with personal details like photo, address, date of birth, and gender. Before we get started it is worth mentioning that even after the change or correction, your 12 digit Aadhaar card number will remain the same.

How to Update Aadhaar Card Online

  1. Visit myAadhaar website
  2. Click on “Login”
  3. Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and the captcha code
  4. Hit Sent OTP, you will get an OTP on your registered mobile numberHow to Update Aadhaar Card
  5. Enter the OTP and click on “Login”How to Update Aadhaar Card
  6. Under Services, select “Update Aadhaar Online”
  7. Read and on-screen instructions and click in “Proceed to update Aadhaar”How to Update Aadhaar Card
  8. Select any of the following fields to update 
    • Language
    • Name
    • Date of Birth
    • Gender
    • Address
  9. Once selected, click on  “Proceed to update Aadhaar”
  10. Enter the details to be updated 
  11. Upload a valid supporting document
  12. Click on “Next”
  13. Complete the payment for updating your Aadhaar card (non-refundable amount)

Once you have completed the payment, you will get a Service Request Number (SRN) as a reference on your phone/mail. You can use the SRN to track the update progress. Once the uploaded document is verified, you will receive an SMS notification containing the Enrolment ID and after a few more validations from the Aadhaar backend software, your request processing will be completed. You will get SMS notification on the outcome. The whole process will take 5 to 7 days to complete.

How to Update Aadhaar Card via Enrolment Centre

  1. Visit the UIDAI appointment website
  2. Search for the nearest Enrolment centre by selecting State/Pincode/Search boxHow to Update Aadhaar Card

  5. You will get the address of the nearest enrolment centre
  6. Visit the enrolment centre
  7. Ask for the Aadhaar correction/update form and fill in what needs to be changed
  8. Make the payment for updating details
  9. You will get a copy of the acknowledgement and also an SMS with appointment ID

Once you have submitted the requirements and made the payment, your details will be updated and a new Aadhaar card will arrive at your address in 3 to 4 weeks.

What Information Can be Updated in Aadhaar Card

Aadhaar card contains details like name, photo, date of birth, gender, and address. While all of these details can be changed, not all of them can be done via online methods. Here is the list of details on the Aadhaar card that can be updated via online and offline methods.

  • Name (minor correction only)
  • Date of Birth
  • Gender
  • Language
  • Address

To update your registered mobile number, email, photo, and biometrics data, you will have to visit the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra. 

Limits to update Aadhaar information

Name: Twice in Life Time

Gender: Once in Life Time

Date of Birth: Once in lifetime subject to the condition that present status of the DoB is declared/approximate.

Documents and Fees Required for Updating Aadhaar Card

For online updation of Aadhaar card details, you will have to pay Rs 50. You can make the payment through a credit/debit card or net banking. This amount is non-refundable. 

As for the fee for Aadhaar card updation at Aadhaar Seva Kendra / Enrolment Centre, you will be charged anywhere between Rs 50 to Rs 100, based on the changes required. Once the payment is made, you will get an SMS with the amount you have paid as well. 

Here is the list of documents acceptable supporting documents for verification including documents for proof of address, proof of relationship, and proof for date of birth.

  • Certificate from Superintendent/ Warden/ Matron/ Head of Institution of recognized shelter homes or orphanages etc. on UIDAI standard certificate format for enrolment/update

Proof of Relationship documents containing Name of applicant and Name of Head of Family

  • PDS Card/ MNREGA Job Card/ CGHS/ State Government/ ECHS/ ESIC Medical card
  • Pension Card/ Army Canteen Card/ Passport
  • Birth Certificate issued by Registrar of Birth, Municipal Corporation and other notified local government bodies like Taluk, Tehsil etc.
  • Any other Central/ State government issued family entitlement document
