Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard, Magic Trackpad: Features
Apple has used its proprietary lightning port on Mac accessories since 2015. However, due to EU regulations, Apple has started replacing the lightning port with more universal USB-C ports on its devices. All three Mac accessories now feature USB-C ports for charging.
However, there’s a catch. Apple is still sticking with the bottom placement for the USB-C port on Magic Mouse. This means users still can’t use the mouse while charging. The overall design and functionality of the accessories also remain the same. With this move, Apple has finally transitioned to USB-C ports on all its products.
To recall, Apple transitioned its MacBook lineup to USB-C in 2015 and all of its MacBooks and desktops by 2018. The company started using USB-C on iPads in 2018 with the launch of the third-generation iPad Pro.
The universal charging port finally arrived on iPhones in 2023 with the launch of the iPhone 15 series. Apple has also switched to USB-C on its AirPods lineup. This means Apple ecosystem users can charge all their devices with a single cable.
