Lenovo is gearing up to launch the S5 Pro smartphone. However, ahead of the launch, Lenovo group’s, vice president, Chang Cheng is setting the ball rolling by taking a dig at Xiaomi’s Mi 8 Youth smartphone. Cheng’s statement shared on Chinese microblogging site, Weibo, seems to be directed at the Youth Edition of the Mi 8.
Mocking Xiaomi’s Mi 8 Youth For Lossless Optical Zoom
Cheng’s statement on Weibo, as translated from Mandarin, reads, “there is a high sitting in the back of the classroom. There is no lossless optical zoom; even the blackboard cannot see clearly, let alone the invincible beauty teacher. Such youth can not bear…” He is seemingly mocking the lack of lossless optical zoom on the Xiaomi Mi 8 Youth standard edition. This statement has been made to show that the S5 Pro sports 2X optical zoom that the Mi 8 Youth lacks. With this statement, Lenovo has made it quite clear that the S5 Pro will be out there to rival Xiaomi’s Mi 8 Youth. It also means that we can expect the S5 Pro to be launched around the similar price range as the Mi 8 Youth.
Well, this is not the first time when a brand is openly hurling criticism. On several occasions, we have seen competitors like Google, Samsung, Apple, and others, taking a dig at each other. Quite recently Samsung mocked Google’s Pixel 3’s design by calling it big enough for an airplane to land. We say, in the world of tech, nothing is beyond expectation, even the mockery.
What Lenovo S5 Pro is Expected to Bring
Coming to the upcoming Lenovo S5 Pro, the phone has been teased, and we are expecting it to feature dual front cameras. One of the posters shared on Chinese social network, Weibo, teases the four cameras on the front. Besides, the phone has also been spotted on certification platform, TENAA, revealing some of its specifications.
On TENAA, the Lenovo S5 Pro has leaked with the model number L58041. The listing revealed that it would run Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box and support dual-SIM connectivity. A 1.8GHz octa-core SoC will be powering the device with 4GB RAM/6GB RAM and 64GB/128GB internal storage with support for microSD expansion. The phone could come with a 6.18-inch full HD+ screen bearing 1080×2246 pixels resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio.
The teaser poster of the S5 Pro shared on Weibo also revealed that it would have four cameras on the rear accompanied by an LED flash. The four lenses are arranged in a square on the back. The poster also hints that the camera will have AI support. One of the teaser images posted by Lenovo comes with a caption that reads, “a pair of eyes to find your inner beauty,” which hints at Portrait Mode.
In comparison to the upcoming Lenovo S5 Pro, Xiaomi’s Mi 8 Youth sports a 12MP+5MP dual camera setup at the rear with AI features, dual phase detection autofocus (PDAF), and f/1.9 aperture. It has a 24MP selfie snapper on the front that also has AI support. These specs are quite good for a mid-range phone, but Lenovo seems to have plans to launch a phone with a quad-camera setup at the rear, priced at par with the Mi 8 Youth Edition.
