Airtel Takes the Lead Over Jio, Vi by Adding Over 3.67 Million Mobile Subscribers in October: TRAI

8.80 million subscribers submitted their request for Mobile Number Portability in India.


It seems Airtel is back in the business as the telecom company has reportedly excelled over Reliance Jio and Vi by adding more than 3.67 million new subscribers in October 2020. TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) released a report claiming that Airtel has added 1.45 million more users than Jio. According to the report, Airtel has always dominated the position when it comes to an active user base. The company has managed to maintain 96.74 percent, active users, on its network. Here’s a closer look at the TRAI report. 

Airtek Surpassed Jio in October

As per the latest report from TRAI, Airtel has achieved 330.28 million wireless subscribers in October, in September it was reported at 326.66 million. This means the telco has gained 3.67 million new subscribers in one month. 

TRAI report also revealed that 8.80 million subscribers submitted their request for Mobile Number Portability in India. This is not a record of any particular telecom company. The report also claimed that the cumulative MNP request has increased from 520.80 million to 529.60 million at the end of October. The overall number of active wireless users in October was 960.91 million in the country. 

Meanwhile, the data shared by TRAI also revealed that Jio retained its position by being the largest telecom operator in the country with 406.35 million wireless subscribers in October. The telecom company had 404.12 million users in September and gained 2.23 million users. Airtel does beat Jio in October month but if you’re looking at the bigger picture Jio is still in the dominating position. 

Where the month of October turned out to be happier for Jio and Airtel, Vi faced another dip of 2.65 million subscribers. The company has dropped its wireless user base to 292.83 million from 295.49 million in September. On the other hand, state-owned telco BSNL has also witnessed a drop of 10,215 wireless subscribers. Currently, BSNL has a user base of 118.88 million.
