HMD Global will be launching a new flagship smartphone, called the Nokia 9, later in 2018. This has been one of the most talked about smartphones in the past few weeks. According to several rumours and reports, the Nokia 9 will be equipped with five camera units at the back.

The phone has appeared on several certification sites as well, revealing its model number and some specifications. Now, the phone has apparently showed up on Canada’s certification site as well. This could mean that the launch date is near. Whenever a phone has passed through certification sites, it usually means that the product is ready for launch.

Nokia 9 Passes Certification in Canada

The alleged Nokia 9 smartphone that passed the certification in Canada, carries the model number TA-1096. This is similar to the model number of the device that recently received the certification from FCC. The phone seems to have a few variants, with model numbers TA-1085, TA-1096, TA-1095 & TA-1100. The TA-1085 is supposedly the single-SIM variant of the Nokia 9, while the TA-1096 and 1095 are dual-SIM variants. We are not sure what variant the TA-1100 model number belongs to.

The Canadian certification site only showed the model number TA-1096, which means that this is the dual-SIM variant. No other information was revealed by the listing, apart from the model number and the availability of NFC. In China, the phone is said to be carrying the model number TA-1094, and has passed through the country’s certification channel.

We still do not know about the launch date for this phone, as Nokia hasn’t confirmed anything. HMD Global hasn’t even talked about the Nokia 9, so we will just have to wait to find out more. There have been rumours claiming that this device could be launched later this month.

Nokia 9: Expected Features

One of the biggest rumours surrounding the Nokia 9, is the inclusion of a 5-sensor camera setup at the back. We have seen leaked images of the device, which feature a circular arrangement of 5 cameras, a flash, and auto-focus sensors. The setup will be made with help of Zeiss Optics, who have patented something known as Miniature Zoom Camera. It is expected that the camera setup on the Nokia 9 would be able to provide lots of optical zoom.

You can also expect the sensors to have variable aperture, good low-light capabilities, and other interesting features. Apart from the 5-sensor camera setup, the phone is also said to have a large 4150mAh battery. The phone is likely will not have a notch at the front, and will carry a QHD+ 5.9-inch display.

The Nokia 9 will most likely be powered by the latest Snapdragon 845 chipset, which would be coupled with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. We are not sure about these specifications, but since this would be a flagship device, these details are obvious. The phone had appeared on a Samsung buyback offer page, revealing the storage details, with a maximum of 128GB of onboard storage.

As of now, this is all that we know about the upcoming flagship from Nokia. The launch date, and other specifications aren’t known as of now. Nokia hasn’t launched a flagship device since the Nokia 8, and this would be a perfect time to announce something completely new. The penta-camera setup could be a game changer for mobile photography. The company has had good sales in the mid-range market, but hasn’t been able to compete with the flagship phones such as the iPhone Xs, Galaxy S9+, Galaxy Note9, Pixel 2, and others. Hopefully, the Nokia 9 can help HMD Global make an impact in the high-end smartphone market.
