Amazon Postpones Annual Prime Day Sale in India Due to COVID-19 Second Wave

Considering that India is battling with COVID-19 second wave, the e-commerce giant has postponed its Prime Day sale in the country.

Amazon has paused its annual Prime Day sale in India, considering the rise of COVID-19 cases in the second wave. In the past week, India has reported 1.5 million new infections and record daily death tolls as hospitals run out of beds and medical oxygen. Considering that India is battling with COVID-19 second wave, the e-commerce giant has postponed its Prime Day sale in the country. Amazon however has not confirmed any rescheduled date for the Prime Day Sale. The Prime Day event is held by the e-commerce giant in July to boost sales, where we see multiple discounts on products.

Amazon Postpones Prime Day Sale In India

Amazon had first started the Prime Day sale in 2015. As a part of this sale, we see the e-commerce giant offering various discounts to prime members, and promote its own products/services, and boost the sale in the middle of the year. Apart from postponing the Prime Day sale in India, Amazon is also reported to have delayed the Prime Day sale in Canada as well. The company however notes that it would go ahead with the planned Prime Day sale in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, and China in June. The discounts are a key way where Amazon markets Prime, a fast-shipping and media-streaming service that motivates subscribers to do more shopping on Amazon. As the days pass, and the COVID-19 infection numbers lower in the country, we should hear from Amazon regarding the official sale date for its upcoming discount sale.

In a piece of related news, we even saw smartphone maker Realme postponing its May 4th event. The company was set to announce the Realme X7 Max and Realme TV in India on May 4th. However, later on, a tweet by the company’s CEO Madhav Sheth confirmed that Realme won’t be launching any new products on May 4th. The tweet reads, “After careful consideration, Realme has decided to postpone the upcoming smartphone and AIoT products’ launch along with anniversary celebrations. In these difficult times, let’s focus on contributing as much as possible. Stay home, Stay strong! We will be back soon.”.
