Amazon Prime Membership gets expensive in India after the company bumped its monthly and quarterly prices. The latest price bump in Amazon Prime Membership comes almost after almost 16 months – as the last raise in subscription plans were announced in December 2021. However, there’s some relief for existing Prime members as they can avail of the subscription at old prices, though there’s a condition attached. The latest price hike doesn’t include the annual membership plans.

Amazon Prime Membership: New monthly and quarterly prices in India

The Amazon Prime Membership fee now starts in India at Rs 299, up from Rs 179 announced in December 2021. That’s a steep Rs 120 rise in Prime membership prices by Amazon for a month. Coming to quarterly Prime prices, it will now cost Rs 599, up from Rs 459 – again a steep rise of Rs 140 for 3 months membership.

It’s worth noting that there’s no rise in prices for annual membership, which continues to be available at Rs 1,499. Similarly, the Annual Prime Lite membership plan is listed at Rs 999.

Notably, the new prices are now listed on the company’s membership fee page.

Amazon Prime Membership: New vs Old Prices

Plan New Price Old Price
Monthly Prime (1 month) ₹ 299 ₹ 179
Quarterly Prime (3 months) ₹ 599 ₹ 459
Annual Prime (12 months) ₹ 1499 ₹ 1499
Annual Prime Lite (12 months) ₹ 999 ₹ 999

Amazon Prime benefits include many things that go over and beyond shopping on the platform, including Prime shipping benefits. In addition, members can access Prime Video, Prime Music, Prime deals and offers during sales, and credit card rewards. Other benefits include access to Prime Gaming, Prime Reading, and Amazon Family.

Amazon Prime Membership Price Hike Shouldn’t Bother Existing Members: Here’s Why

The increase in Amazon Prime Membership prices doesn’t mean existing users will have to pay the extra amount. Amazon says that existing members can continue to enjoy Prime benefits for the duration of their current Prime membership and do not have to pay extra. In addition, the company offers existing members a chance to continue renewing their Prime membership at old prices.

Amazon says, “As a valued customer, you can continue to auto-renew in the same Prime plan at the old price of Rs 459 for 3 months (and Rs 179 for a month) till the last renewal before January 15, 2024. However, Amazon does drop a word of caution that this offer extends only to the point where the auto-payment doesn’t decline. The company adds, “In case the auto payment fails or the customer revokes the consent to auto-renew, you will need to renew Prime at the new prices.”

As expected, customers with the Amazon Prime annual plan need not worry, as the latest price hike only impacts the monthly and quarterly members in India. What do you think about the latest price hike of Prime membership in India? Do let us know in the comments section.
