Amazon Prime Video Launches Native macOS App Allowing Downloads

It also supports Apple AirPlay.

Amazon Prime Video is one of the most popular streaming services globally. Amazon’s streaming platform was available on Android, iOS, Windows (Desktop/PC) platforms and also on browsers until now. Today, the company has announced the rollout of the native macOS Amazon Prime Video application. The app is already available for download on eligible macOS devices.

Globally, macOS users with Big Sur 11.4 and above, can download the Amazon Prime Video app for free from the App Store. The app will allow users to stream and download content for offline viewing. Amazon says the macOS app has been designed to deliver a streaming experience that is similar to the Prime Video website, but with slightly different capabilities that offer even more convenience to users.
In terms of features, the app on macOS will offer streaming over AirPlay, use Picture-In-Picture (PiP) and the option to download movies and series for offline viewing. Users can also use the search/browse functionality and also IMDb’s X-ray, continue watching, watchlists etc. The Prime Video app also supports over 20+ languages and it currently supports up to 1080p streaming with 4k support coming soon. The app is available in all countries where Prime Video is available.

In India, Prime Video macOS supports 9 local languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati, Punjabi and Bengali. Some of the popular shows are movies on the platform include Sardar Udham, Jai Bhim, Shershaah, Toofaan, Sherni, Gulabo Sitabo, Narappa, Sarpatta Parambarai, Kuruthi, and more. Amazon’s original series like  Mumbai Diaries 26/11, Paatal Lok, Bandish Bandits, Breathe, Comicstaan Semma Comedy Pa, The Family Man, Mirzapur, Inside Edge and Made In Heaven, etc can also be streamed. 

Needless to say, you will need to have a valid Amazon Prime subscription to access the aforementioned content on the platform. Currently, the Amazon Prime subscription costs Rs 999 and soon, it will be moved to Rs 1,499.
