Apple AR headset
Apple could launch its AR headset in 2022. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the rumoured AR headset will debut in 2022. A MacRumors report, citing Kuo’s investor note, reveals that the launch is pushed to Q2 2022. The analyst had previously predicted the launch for late 2021 and later revised it to Q1 2022. “We predict that Apple will launch AR HMD [head-mounted display] devices in 2Q22. The device will provide a video see-through AR experience, so the lens is also needed, and Genius is also a key supplier,” Kuo said in his investor note. The same supplier will supply the wide-angle and telephoto camera lenses for the upcoming iPhone 13 lineup.
The mixed-reality headset will use a combination of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) to deliver an ultra-high resolution 8K display. It is also said to arrive with swappable headbands which will allow users to change it as per their requirement. Other details rumoured so far include an advanced eye-tracking feature that will show images only on the part where the user is looking. The headset will have a dozen cameras inside and out of the device for tracking hand movement and deliver a seamless experience. A sleeker version in the form of AR Glasses is rumoured to launch in 2025.
It was previously reported that the headset would launch for around USD 3,000 (Rs 2,18,600). The AR Glasses, on the other hand, will be relatively affordable at USD 499 (Rs 36,300).
