Apple is hosting its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) starting June 6 this year. This will be Apple’s third virtual WWDC event on the row. While the main attraction at the WWDC has always been software around Apple’s ecosystem, this time around the company could announce a couple of new Macs at the event.
The WWDC will kickstart on June 6 and will on until June 10. We are expecting announcements around iOS 16, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS. In addition to this, we can expect Apple to make some announcements around the next-gen Apple M2 silicon or Apple’s much rumoured VR headset. A report from Bloomberg by Mark Gurman tells the mixed reality headset is still doubtful for June announcement and Apple could end up announcing new hardware at the event.
New Mac Announcement at WWDC 2022?
A couple of years ago, Apple announced the arrival of its own Apple M series chipset on the same stage and this year, the company might announce new Macs. Gurman says, at least two new Macs will be launched in the mid-2022 or early in the second half, which means the launch of new Macs at the WWDC is still a possibility.
One of the two upcoming Macs is the new MacBook Air. Apart from the new Air version, the company is also working on a new-gen Mac mini, a 24-inch iMac and an affordable MacBook Pro, which will replace the old 13-inch model. Also, new Mac Pro and iMac Pro models are in development.
The new MacBook Air could be powered by Apple’s own M2 chip, which will be the successor to the MacBook Air M1. The new MacBook Air is also said to come with a new design, support for MagSafe, and a 13.3-inch display. As for the port options, the upcoming machine will continue with two USB Type-C ports and have a white-coloured keyboard layout. As for the MacBook Pro, the device could come with a ProMotion display along with two USB Type-C ports as well.
Further, in terms of software announcements, Apple is expected to announce updates around the iOS 16, watchOS 9, macOS 13 and tvOS 16.
