Apple is rumoured to launch a bigger MacBook Air later this year. As per previous rumours, the company was scheduled to launch the 15.5-inch display variant of its affordable Air series laptop in Spring 2023. The device was tipped to feature the new M3 series chip. However, Apple is unlikely to unveil its new M-series SoC before the World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) 2023 in June. Now, a new report has revealed some more details about the upcoming 15-inch MacBook Air.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has revealed that the 15-inch Air model details have surfaced in the developer logs of the App Store. The tipster also shared some key details about the SoC that will power the upcoming MacBook. Let’s take a look at the Apple MacBook Air 15-inch specifications, features and other details revealed so far.
New MacBook Air 15-inch Might Feature This Chipset
Apple is likely to launch its new 15-inch MacBook Air at WWDC 2023. Ahead of the launch, some key details about the laptop have leaked. Gurman, in its new Power On newsletter (via), has revealed that an unreleased 15-inch MacBook Air has been spotted in the App Store developer logs.
The report reveals that the laptop features an SoC, which is “on par” with the M2 chip found in the 13-inch model. It has an 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU, just like the M2 chip. The laptop also packs 8GB of RAM under the hood.
As per the logs, the 15-inch model has the identifier “Mac 15,3.” It is running macOS 14, which will be unveiled at WWDC 2023. In addition to the above details, the logs also revealed that the 15-inch variant has the same display resolution as the 14-inch MacBook Pro.
There have been reports in the past suggesting the 15-inch Air model features Apple’s upcoming M3 chip. However, it looks like the bigger Air will get the same M2 series chip found in the 13.6-inch variant.
As per the report, the 15-inch Air will be announced at WWDC, which is slated to kick off on June 5. Apple announced the 13.6-inch variant of the MacBook Air at WWDC 2022. The 15-inch model is likely to have the same design elements as the 13.6-inch variant, which received a refresh last year. It will feature a flatter frame made of metal. There will be a notch display at the top. The screen is likely to be 15.6-inch in size and feature the standard IPS LCD panel.
Apple is also likely to offer only two USB Type-C ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The bigger Air is unlikely to get an SD card port or more than two USB Type-C Thunderbolt ports, which only the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models feature.
Alongside the 15-inch model, Apple is also reportedly working on an updated version of the 13-inch Air. At WWDC 2023, Apple is also likely to launch a new Mac Pro with a powerful version of the M2 chip called the M2 Ultra and an updated iMac, which has not been refreshed since 2021.
