Apple recently launched the Mac Studio with an all-new M1 Ultra chip. The new M-series chip was the last new addition to the M1 series. Apple will soon launch new MacBooks with the new M2 chip. The company was initially rumoured to launch the new MacBook Air and a Pro model with an M2 chip. However, it looks like the launch timeline might have been pushed further.

Mark Gurman from Bloomberg (via MacRumors) claims that the new MacBook Air M2 is not coming until the second half of 2022. Let’s take a look at the new MacBook Air M2 specifications, launch timeline, and other leaked details.

Apple MacBook Air M2 Launch Delayed

Apple was said to have originally planned to launch its new MacBook Air M2 in 1H 2022. However, the launch is said to be delayed by a few months. Gurman did not reveal the exact launch month but claims that Apple will unveil the new M2-powered Air during the second half of 2022. A 9to5Mac report too claimed that Apple will launch the 13-inch MacBooks later this year.

The upcoming entry-level MacBook is said to feature a new design. It is codenamed Stalen and has the model number J413. Apple will launch the laptop with support for MagSafe, which will be similar to the MacBook Pro M1 Pro, M1 Max models. The Air laptop will come with a 13.3-inch display and will have thick white bezels around the screen. It will continue to sport two USB Type-C Thunderbolt ports and have a white-coloured keyboard layout.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously claimed that the Air’s production will begin in the late second quarter or early third quarter. This means that Apple could launch the new M2 laptop around September or October. In comparison, the M1 models were launched in November 2020.

Alongside the Air, Apple might also launch an M2-powered 13-inch MacBook Pro. The base Pro model will not come with a ProMotion display and Apple will continue to offer only two USB Type-C Thunderbolt 4 ports on the M2 Pro model. Other details of the laptop remain unknown. We will share more information once available.
