Asus ROG Phone 2 with 120Hz Display Launching in China on 23rd July

Asus launched its first gaming smartphone, the ROG Phone, back in June 2018. And a few days back, the brand announced that the successor its first gaming smartphone will be called the ROG Phone 2. Along with that, Asus also revealed that the ROG Phone 2 will have a 120Hz refresh rate display. There was, however, no information regarding the launch date of the ROG Phone 2 back then. Well, it looks like today we finally have it.

According to a new report from DigiTimes, Asus will launch the ROG Phone 2 on 23rd July at an event in China. According to the publication, the ROG Phone 2 will come in two variants, and the base variant will have a price tag of CNY 4,399 (approximately INR 44,000). DigiTimes says that after unveiling the smartphone on 23rd July, Asus will showcase and promote the ROG Phone 2 at ChinaJoy 2019 expo in Shanghai, which is the largest game show in mainland China, with over 400,000 gamers. The ROG Phone 2, just like its predecessor, will be a gaming-oriented smartphone, and it only makes sense if Asus wants to show off the device to gamers at the expo.

What Will the Asus ROG Phone 2 Offer?

Currently, there isn’t much we know about the Asus ROG Phone 2 apart from that it will have a 120Hz refresh rate display. The ROG Phone came with the flagship smartphone chipset from Qualcomm that was available at the time, the Snapdragon 845. It is only apparent that the ROG Phone 2 will feature the current flagship chipset from Qualcomm, which is the Snapdragon 855. The ROG Phone came with 8GB of RAM, which was the highest RAM capacity you could get in a smartphone back then. In 2019, however, we have smartphones with up to 12GB of RAM. So, the ROG Phone 2 will most likely feature 12GB of RAM.

Similar to the ROG Phone, the upcoming ROG Phone 2 could feature an AMOLED display without a notch, stereo speakers, 3.5mm audio jack, two USB Type-C ports, Wi-Fi ad/ac, 30W Quick Charge 4+ fast charging, and a 4000mAh battery. The ROG Phone 2, however, might most probably have a new camera setup; it might feature a 48MP primary camera just like the one we’ve seen on the recently launched Asus Zenfone 6. Rumors suggest that the ROG Phone 2 might also feature better cooling solutions compared to the ROG Phone. I am sure, as the launch nears, Asus will reveal more about the ROG Phone 2.
