Asus Zenfone 5Z Scheduled to Receive Android 9 Pie Update in January 2019 in India

Asus has sent out a press release to the media houses that the Zenfone 5Z will receive Android 9 Pie update in January 2019. The roll-out of Android 9 Pie for the Zenfone 5Z will be in phases. Therefore, it will take some time until all the Zenfone 5Z users receive the update. According to the press release, the update will bring with it contextual pop-up volume control bar and a Magnifier feature for an easier copy-paste functionality. The update might bring additional features, but Asus hasn’t revealed any info about them. However, the update should bring with it all the basic features of Android 9 Pie such as gesture navigation, Adaptive Battery, Adaptive Brightness, App Actions, new screenshot shortcut, easier screen rotation, dark mode and so on.

Asus Has Dropped the Price of Asus Zenfone 5Z by INR 5,000

The Asus Zenfone 5Z made its debut on February 28, 2018 at the MWC event in Barcelona, Spain. The smartphone, however, launched in India on July 4, 2018. The Asus Zenfone 5Z is available in three variants in India: 6GB RAM + 64GB storage, 8GB RAM + 128GB storage, and 8GB RAM + 256GB storage. At the time of launch, Asus priced the base variant at INR 29,999, the middle variant at INR 32,999 and the top-end variant at INR 36,999. However, Asus has dropped the prices of the Zenfone 5Z. It now costs INR 24,999 for the 64GB storage variant and the INR 27,999 for the 128GB storage variant, while the top-end variant now costs INR 31,999.

Asus Zenfone 5Z Has an Excellent Value for Money

When the Asus Zenfone 5Z launched in India, its pricing and specifications made it a direct rival to the OnePlus 6. Even though the Zenfone 5Z was slightly cheaper, people preferred the OnePlus 6 because it was marginally better in a few aspects. A few weeks ago, OnePlus replaced the 6 with the new 6T. Hence, the Asus Zenfone 5Z now competes with the OnePlus 6T instead of the OnePlus 6.

If you follow smartphone industry closely, you might know that OnePlus 6T is actually being regarded as a downgrade to the OnePlus 6, mainly due to its slow fingerprint scanner and the removal of 3.5mm audio jack. Hence, now if you compare the Asus Zenfone 5Z with the OnePlus 6T, the former looks like a better option. You would ask how? Well, the Zenfone 5Z, with its price drop, is a whopping INR 10,000 cheaper than the OnePlus 6T, while offering similar hardware and similar performance. Additionally, the Zenfone 5Z also has a 3.5mm audio jack that the OnePlus 6T lacks, and its fingerprint scanner is also faster than that in the OnePlus 6T.

Even if you don’t compare the Asus Zenfone 5Z with the OnePlus 6T, the Zenfone 5Z is the best smartphone in its price range. Hell, I would go even further and say that the Zenfone 5Z is one of the best Android smartphones in the market. The only thing that it lacks when compared to the high-end Android smartphones like the Galaxy Note 9 and the LG G7 is the waterproof body. If you can compromise on that, I think you should prefer the Asus Zenfone 5Z over them and save money. You can check out our Asus Zenfone 5Z review here.
