Taiwanese electronics major ASUS is on the verge of launching its top of the line device for 2019 in the next few days if we are to go by recent reports. If you recall, the company had announced the Zenfone 5 and the Zenfone 5Z in May last year which means it will be a year since that happened. Unlike the two models that were announced last year, it seems we only have one version of the flagship Zenfone series this time around – at least ASUS is yet to talk about a second variant thus far. If you haven’t guessed already, this new device from ASUS is called the Zenfone 6. While details regarding the Zenfone 6 remained sketchy until now, ASUS recently tweeted a teaser image of the device in which it also revealed the launch date for the device. Read on to find out what we know about the ASUS Zenfone 6 so far.
ASUS Zenfone 6 Teaser on Twitter
Before we talk about the phone, take a look at the teaser image posted by ASUS on its Twitter page recently.
— ASUS (@ASUS) May 2, 2019
The image shows a handset with very tiny bezels and a tall display completely devoid of a notch. The poster also indicates that the Zenfone 6 will be launched on May 16. Clicking the link in the tweet takes you to a landing page where it is revealed that the launch event on May 16 is scheduled to take place in Valencia, Spain.
ASUS uses the tagline “defy ordinary” for the Zenfone 6 and by the looks of it, this is likely to be a very capable device from the company. It is also important to note that ASUS has strategically timed this launch to coincide with the launch of the new OnePlus 7 series devices that are also set to be announced soon.
ASUS Zenfone 6: Pop up camera a possibility?
The apparent absence of a notch on the front fascia of the Zenfone 6 has given rise to speculations about the device possibly coming with a pop-up front camera. While this is a distinct possibility, we would rather have ASUS confirm this on the day of the launch which is less than two weeks away. What if ASUS decides to surprise us all and the phone comes with a dual slider camera similar to the one we saw on the OPPO Find X.
As for the rest of the specifications of the ASUS Zenfone 6, it is expected that the phone will feature a dual camera set up at the rear with the main camera boasting of a 48-megapixel sensor. We do not, at this point in time, have details about the secondary rear camera. The phone will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC and will feature 6GB and 8GB of RAM depending on the variant you buy. The handset will also come in 128GB and 256GB storage options. While not confirmed yet, there is a possibility of the Zenfone 6 also getting an AMOLED panel this time around with FHD+ resolution. The handset will run a revamped version of ZenUI atop an Android 9 Pie core. In India, we can expect the handset to be sold in the dual SIM version that will also support quick charging.
