ASUS recently announced its second-generation affordable ZenFone Max and Max Pro series of devices in Russia a day ago. Now, ASUS India has teased the arrival of the ZenFone Max M2 in India through its official Twitter handle today. The handset launches in a few days, on December 11. The bigger sibling—ZenFone Max Pro M2—which was launched alongside the Max M2 in Russia is already set to arrive on the same day. The ZenFone Max M2 is the successor of the ZenFone Max M1 that launched last year and is a toned down version of the Max Pro M1 (Review).
The ASUS India teaser also reveals a few key specifications that will be featured on the upcoming budget smartphone. Amongst them is a Snapdragon 632 SoC and stock Android. In comparison, the ZenFone Max M1 was equipped with a Snapdragon 425 SoC and the new chip on the Max M2 can be considered a good step up from its predecessor. Moreover, ASUS has been endowing its budget phones with stock Android which is pleasing to see, so the disclosure that the Max M2 will come with stock Android is not a surprise. However, it will be a pleasant surprise if ASUS preloads the handset with Android 9.0 Pie. In a separate teaser, ASUS has also confirmed that the ZenFone Max M2 will also rock Corning Gorilla Glass 6 which is one of the key features of the Max Pro M2.

If the Russian official listing is anything to go by, the ZenFone Max M2 will rock a 6.3-inch HD+ display. That’s up from last year’s 5.5-inch panel and users will have considerably more real estate but lower pixel density. Also, this time the series will feature a notch becoming the first Max devices to do so. The processor is already confirmed and the RAM and storage variants will probably be more than just a 3GB RAM + 32GB storage version. On the camera side of things, the ZenFone Max M2 has a dual 13MP+2MP camera setup. This is a step back if you see the Max M1 which had an 8MP secondary sensor. However, ASUS could very well have something different in store for the Indian variant. The selfie camera remains an 8MP shooter similar to the predecessor.
Asus ZenFone Max M2 Price In India: Expectations
The ZenFone Max M1 and Max Pro M1 were exceptionally well-priced handsets and gave tough competition to the established Redmi Note 5 Pro. The successors, more or less, do seem to be following the same path, reveals the listing on ASUS Russian website. the Zenfone Max M2 is priced at 12,990 Rubles, which is about INR 13,900. And if you’re wondering about the price of the Pro version it was 17,990 Rubles, which is equal to INR 19,900. Now, that’s definitely much more expensive than the Max Pro M1, however, the new handset comes with improvements in many key areas. It is also worth noting that ASUS might price the handset more aggressively in India given that it is a big key market for the Taiwanese firm. The handset will be Flipkart exclusive like its bigger brother.
