ASUS has finally started rolling out Android 9 Pie update to its budget smartphone, the Zenfone Max M2. In addition to the latest update, the phone also gets the latest May 2019 Android security patch. The Zenfone Max M2 users should get the OTA update notification soon, if not, then they can check for it manually by heading to the Settings and checking for System Updates.

The post by SuperModerator on ASUS forum, ZenTalk, states that the Zenfone Max M2 has started receiving the update carrying the version number 16.2018.1905.42. The update has been released on May 21, 2019. In addition to the May 2019 security patch, the update also upgrades Google Mobile Services (GMS) to the version 9.0_201903. Being a server-side update that is pushed out in batches, it may take a few days for every Zenfone Max M2 user to get the update.

To recall, the Zenfone Max M2 debuted in India in December 2018. The phone has been a worthy contender in the budget segment with a 6.26-inch HD+ notched display and Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 chipset. The phone has a 13MP+2MP dual camera setup along with an 8MP selfie camera. A 4,000mAh battery backs the device. There is a fingerprint sensor on the rear although it also supports Face Unlock feature.
The Zenfone Max M2 (review) price in India starts at INR 9,999 for the 3GB RAM+32GB Storage variant and INR 11,999 for the 4GB RAM+64GB Storage variant. The phone was launched in Black and Blue color variants. It debuted in India alongside the ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M2 smartphone, which is a better option over it but it costs slightly more than the Max M2. The difference between the Max Pro M2 and Max M2 is not huge but the former packs a better chipset, selfie camera, and battery capacity.
