ASUS has started rolling a new software update for its ZenFone Max Pro M2 and ZenFone Max M2 smartphones. The new update for both the smartphones brings along the December 2018 Android security patch. The latest update also adds optimized camera interface to the ZenFone Max Pro M2 while upgrading the touchscreen firmware for the ZenFone Max M2. It also brings Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) to the front camera of Max M2. Let’s check out what else the latest update adds for the two devices.
December 2018 Security Patch With FOTA Update for ZenFone Max Pro M2 and Max M2
The latest Firmware Over-The-Air (FOTA) update carries the version number 15.2016.1812.179 for the ZenFone Max Pro M2 and number 15.2016.1812.145 for the ZenFone Max M2 smartphone. The update improves the text translation on the Max Pro M2 and also fixes noise reduction on FM radio. For the same device, it enhances the camera interface and also the touchscreen firmware.
As for the ZenFone Max M2, the update improves the registration of the fingerprint and it also upgrades the camera performance by adding EIS support for the selfie snapper. Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) enhances image through electronic processing. This enhancement technique lowers the blurring and shields the output from device shake. It’s worth noting that EIS cannot wholly prevent blur from extreme camera shake, but it can minimize the effect from standard handheld lens shaking.
With December 2018 security patch added for both the devices, they will be secure from bugs. ASUS is pushing the update in a ‘batch by batch’ manner, which means that the gradual rollout of the update should reach all the units in a week. To manually check for the update, users just need to head to the Settings menu and search for the update.
This is just a security update with some new features and fixes. ASUS is yet to push a major update for both the phones that were launched in India in December 2018. The company may soon roll out a big update that will bring Android 9.0 Pie onboard.
