Banks across India will be closed seven times in August 2022. This is because multiple national holidays fall in August including Muharram, Raksha Bandhan, Independence Day, and much more. Here’s a description of the complete national holidays falling in August 2022.


Aug 9, 2022 – Muharram – It is also known as Id-ul-Zuha or Bakr-Id and is celebrated by the Muslim community across the world. People wear new shoes, clothes and offer gifts to their dear ones on this occasion. A goat is sacrificed on this day.

Aug 11, 2022 – Raksha Bandhan – It is a festival celebrated mostly by people of the Hindu community. On this occasion, a sister ties a rakhi on her brother’s hand as a promise to take care of her and the whole family.

Aug 15, 2022 – Independence Day – August 15, 1947 is the day when India got freedom from British rule. To celebrate this day, August 15 is celebrated as Independence day across the country.

August 18, 2022 – Janmashtami – Janmashtami is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Krishna. The festival is celebrated at midnight as Lord Krishna was born on a rainy night.

August 31, 2022 – Ganesh Chaturthi – Lord Ganesha is worshipped on this day with a lot of enthusiasm. It is a 10 days celebration and sweets called Modak are prepared. It is celebrated mostly among the Maratha community.
