Update: We finally have a winner in the sub Rs 50,000 price segment category. Popular brands like OnePlus, iQOO, Nothing, Samsung, etc., were quite popular in this segment, and we saw some incredible phones. However, our jury has now revealed the winner of the same.

Winner: iQOO 9T

Our prestigious jury has picked the iQOO 9T as the flagship killer a.k.a the best phone of 2022 under Rs 50,000. It is a performance beast that packs along with a balanced camera setup, superfast charging, a sporty design, and much more.

With Indian Gadget Awards returning back in its third iteration, it is time to identify the best-performing devices across categories. Smartphones under Rs 50,000 were once referred to as flagship killers. This is a premium segment where we get to see smartphones loaded with top specs. In 2022, the phones in this segment saw some more features added. The charging speed went up to 150W, the camera megapixels went up to 200MP, and the performance level achieved new high scores. Popular brands like OnePlus, iQOO, Nothing, Samsung, etc., were quite popular in this segment. In 2022, these brands launched some phones under Rs 50,000, which our prestigious jury has nominated for the Indian Gadget Awards (IGA) 2022. The IGA 2022 is set to happen on January 31, and the winners will be announced on the same day.

Carl Pei’s latest startup Nothing probably made the loudest buzz on social media for its first ever phone launch. The Nothing Phone (1) made highlights due to its glyph lights and transparent back panel. Under the hood, the device is powered by a Snapdragon 778G+ processor. It comes with a 6.55-inch Full HD+ OLED display with a 120Hz screen refresh rate. The phone draws power from the 4,500mAh battery unit with support for 33W fast charging, 15W wireless charging and 5W reverse wireless charging. As for the software, the Phone (1) runs on Nothing OS based on Android 12 with nearly not many bloatware apps. 

In the camera department, the Nothing Phone (1) features dual rear cameras on the back with a 50MP (Sony IMX766) primary snapper and a 50MP (Samsung JN1) ultra-wide angle lens. There is a 16MP Sony IMX471 selfie snapper on the front.

OnePlus 10T 5G

The OnePlus 10T is the company’s middle child that sits between the OnePlus 10 Pro and OnePlus 10R. Only three phones in India support 150W fast charging and the OnePlus 10T 5G is one of those. Apart from the charging, the phone itself is a performance monster as it is powered by a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset that is coupled with 16GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. It is the company’s first major flagship phone without the iconic alert slider. It comes with a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution and 120Hz screen refresh rate. 

In terms of cameras, the OnePlus 10T features a triple rear camera with a 50MP IMX766 main camera. This is accompanied by an 8MP wide-angle lens and a 2MP macro snapper. The phone comes with a 16MP selfie camera on the front. The phone boots OxygenOS 12.1 based on Android 12.

The iQOO 9T is the first T-series phone of the company in India. It was launched to take on the OnePlus 10T 5G. Its iconic BMW motorsports design looks unique and differentiates it from the OnePlus 10T. The device features Qualcomm’s one of the most powerful chipsets, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. The phone comes with a 4,700mAh battery and supports 120W fast charging. It runs Android 12-based Funtouch OS 12 out of the box. 

It sports a tall 6.78-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate support. The phone has a 50MP Samsung GN5 main camera sensor, a 13MP ultrawide camera and a 12MP telephoto camera with up to 20x digital zoom. For selfies, there is a 16MP front camera. The 9T 5G also comes with Vivo’s V1+ chip for improving the camera performance.

Motorola Edge 30 Fusion

The Motorola Edge 30 Fusion has an elegant design on the back. The company recently launched a new Viva Magenta colour in collaboration with Pantone. The device features a 6.55-inch 10-bit OLED display panel with a Full HD+ resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, and HDR10+. Under the hood, the Edge 30 Fusion sports an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor. The handset comes pre-loaded with Android 12. The smartphone is backed by a 4400mAh battery unit and 68W fast charging support. It offers a triple-rear camera setup that includes a 50MP primary shooter with OIS support, a 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. It is equipped with a 32MP front shooter.

Realme GT 2 Pro

The Realme GT 2 Pro is the company’s most premium offering in India. The phone has a very aesthetic and pleasing design on the back. It features the world’s first Bio-based smartphone design that is made up of a biopolymer material. Moreover, it’s the only phone on the list to offer a Quad HD+ resolution display. It has a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate support and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. 

The Realme GT 2 Pro is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor and boots Realme UI 3.0 based on Android 12. The Realme flagship is backed by a 5,000mAh battery unit and 65W fast charging support. It sports a triple rear camera setup that includes a 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor, a 50MP Samsung Isocell JN1 ultra-wide-angle sensor, and a 2MP microscopic sensor with 40x zoom support. For selfies and video calls, the GT 2 Pro relies on a 32MP Sony IMX615 sensor.

Another phone from Realme on the list is the Realme GT Neo 3. The phone made highlights due to its 150W superfast charging speed which can juice up its battery in just 17 minutes. It flaunts a 120Hz 6.7-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display and under the hood, it is powered by the Dimensity 8100 processor. In the optics department, the phone comes with a 50MP Sony IMX766 primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2MP macro camera. There is a 16MP selfie camera as well.

The device comes in two battery and charging configurations 一 5,000mAh battery + 80W fast charging and a 4,500mAh battery + 150W fast charging. The phone boots Android 12 based Realme UI 3.0 out of the box.

OPPO Reno8 Pro 5G


The OPPO Reno8 Pro 5G is a balanced device from the company whose highlights are its display and the camera features. It features a 6.7-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels. The display also comes with a 120Hz screen refresh rate. The handset is powered by the latest MediaTek Dimensity 8100 Max processor along with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. In terms of optics, it packs a triple-camera setup at the rear with a combination of a 50MP primary lens, 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and 2MP macro shooter. For selfies, the phone features a 32MP sensor with an f/2.4 aperture. The phone is juiced up by a 4,500mAh battery with 80W SuperVOOC fast charging support. The device boots ColorOS 12.1 based on Android 12.

Vivo V-series has always been about design and the V25 Pro 5G is no different. The Vivo V25 Pro retains the colour-changing fluorite AG Glass design from its predecessor Vivo V23 Pro. It features a curved Full HD+ AMOLED display with a screen size of 6.56-inch. Powering the device is an octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 1300 processor. It sports a 4,830mAh battery unit and supports 66W fast charging. The smartphone boots FunTouchOS 12 based on Android 12.

The latest V-series smartphone comes equipped with a triple-rear camera setup that includes a 64MP primary shooter with OIS support and an f/1.89 aperture. The high-resolution sensor on the Vivo handset gets accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2MP macro sensor. It packs a 32MP front shooter for selfies and video calls.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G is still one of the value for money devices that you can buy. It could be the last device in the FE series as Samsung is said to discontinue its series. The phone has a plain aesthetic design and comes in four charming colours – Olive, Lavender, White and Graphite. It features a 6.4-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate support. 

It packs a 4,500mAh battery with support for 25W fast charging and 15W wireless charging. Under the hood, it comes with an Exynos 2100 chip. The phone has an IP68 water-resistant rating. It runs Android 12-based OneUI 4.0 out of the box. 

The device has a 12MP triple-camera setup on the back with optical image stabilisation (OIS) support. Accompanying the main sensor is a 12MP ultrawide sensor with a 123-degree field of view, and an 8MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom and up to 30x Space Zoom.
