Xiaomi’s sub-brand Black Shark, which is known for manufacturing gaming-centric Android smartphones, has just launched its brand new Black Shark 3 lineup of smartphones in China. The company has so far not given a word on the global launch of the Black Shark 3 and Black Shark 3 Pro handsets, but it will likely do the same in subsequent parts of the year as it has done in the past. Nevertheless, we now know the full specifications and features of the Black Shark 3 series of smartphones and we know what we would be waiting to launch in our country (if you are not living in China, of course) in the future. Take a look at the full specifications and features of the Black Shark 3 and Black Shark 3 Pro smartphones.

Black Shark 3: Specifications, Features, and Price

The vanilla Black Shark 3 smartphone flaunts a 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED display. The display comes with a 90Hz refresh rate and a 270Hz touch sampling rate. There is a slight bezel at the top of the device, which incorporates its selfie snapper. The brand has stayed away from making use of holes or cutouts for the front camera. Speaking of cameras, Black Shark 3 sports a triple camera setup at the back, which includes a 64MP primary sensor (f/1.8 aperture), a 13MP sensor (f/2.25 aperture), and a 5MP sensor (f/2.2 aperture). At the front, the Black Shark 3 features a 20MP selfie snapper (f/2.2 aperture). The device measures 168.72×77.33×10.42mm and weighs in at 222 grams. The weight looks a bit on the higher side, but one has to remember that it is a gaming smartphone, after all. The device comes in three color variants – Lightning Black, Armor Gray, and Star Silver.

Under the hood, the Black Shark 3 is powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor (clocked up to 2.84GHz), which is coupled with 8GB/12GB of LPDDR4x/LPDDR5 RAM (respectively) and 128GB/256GB of UFS 3.0 storage. In the software department, Black Shark 3 runs the latest Android 10 OS out of the box with the company’s very own JOY UI skin atop.

In terms of battery, the Black Shark 3 houses a 4,720mAh cell, which has support for up to 65W of fast charging. Furthermore, the magnetic connector which has been introduced alongside the device can deliver up to 18W of charging speed. The device (thankfully) retains a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Coming to the price of the device, the Black Shark 3 is kept at an asking price of CNY 3,499 for the 8GB/128GB variant and CNY 3,799 for the 12GB/256GB variant. The device is up for pre-order and will go on sale on March 6, 2020.

Black Shark 3 Pro: Specifications, Features, and Price

The Black Shark 3 Pro sports a huge 7.1-inch AMOLED display with a QHD+ resolution. The device comes with a 1,440 x 3,120 pixel display. Just like the Black Shark 3, the Black Shark 3 Pro also comes with a 90Hz refresh rate and a 270Hz touch sampling rate. The processor the device uses is also the same, i.e. Snapdragon 865, but the LPDDR5 dual channel RAM is available in both 8GB and 12GB options. There is only one 256GB internal storage option available for the Black Shark 3 Pro. The device measures 177.79×83.29×10.1mm and weighs in at 253 grams. The Black Shark 3 Pro comes in Phantom Black and Armor Gray color variants.

Coming to the cameras, the front and rear cameras on the Pro variant of the Black Shark 3 are the same, but the Black Shark 3 Pro has support for laser focus. Another difference the Black Shark 3 Pro comes with is the additional pair of dedicated gaming buttons. Vanilla Black Shark 3 lacks physical gaming buttons. When one puts the Black Shark 3 Pro into landscape mode, the buttons act like shoulder buttons and aid in gaming, something we have seen in plenty of gaming smartphones available on the market.

As far as the pricing is concerned, the Black Shark 3 Pro is priced at CNY 4,699 for the 8GB/256GB model and CNY 4,999 for the 12GB/256GB model. The device is already up for reservation and its pre-sale will commence on March 10, 2020. Just like the Black Shark 3, the Pro variant also runs on Android 10 out of the box.
