BYD Atto 3 Electric SUV Launched in India For Rs 34 Lakh: Details on Range, Performance, Features and More

BYD Atto 3 is the latest electric vehicle to join the list of battery-powered cars in India. The all-electric SUV has been launched at a starting price of Rs 33.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and comes as the second EV offering by the Chinese automaker Build Your Dreams (BYD) after the e6 MPV that was unveiled in the country in August this year.

As a highlight, the BYD Atto 3 comes with a range of 521km (ARAI-approved) on a single charge, made possible with a 60.48kWh Blade battery pack that is considerably larger than those found on the Hyundai Kona and the MG ZS EV, which the EV plans to contest in the Indian market. To boost this, the electric SUV supports regenerative braking and a fast charging capability wherein it can juice up 80 per cent of the battery through an 80kW DC fast charger.

BYD Atto 3 Price and Sale Details

Bookings for the BYD Atto 3 electric SUV have been open since October 11 when the EV was first unveiled in India. Those interested in the electric car can visit the company’s official Indian website to find their nearest BYD dealer or share their contact information. The BYD India team will then reach out to the person on the shared contact points. Booking amount for the BYD Atto 3 currently stands at Rs 50,000.

The Atto 3 is available in four colours – Surf Blue, Parkour Red, Boulder Grey, and Ski White. The ex-showroom price for the BYD Atto 3 starts at Rs 33.99 lakh.

BYD Atto 3 Design

The Atto 3 sports a signature BYD design, inspired by minimalism and just the right amount of curves to make it look an appropriate, and not an overly-bulky SUV. We can see that with the silver front grille that sports the bold BYD logo in the middle and ends at sleek and wing-shaped headlights and LED DRLs on both the flanks. Other elements at the front include the a dual-tone bumper and a faux silver skid plate.

From the side, the Atto 3 carries a typical SUV look with silver highlights on the C-pillar, a floating roofline, blacked-out wheel arches and 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. At the back, the Atto 3 sports full-length LED tail-lamps, a spoiler and a dual-tone bumper.

BYD Atto 3 Notable Features

Some of the notable features on the all-electric SUV include a panoramic sunroof with electric slide and anti-pinch, electric unlock tailgate, one-touch open/ close tailgate, roof rails, as well as electrically heated, adjustable and retractable exterior mirrors.

On the inside, there is a 12.8-inch rotating central screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, a 5.0-inch digital instrument cluster, synthetic leather seats, a wireless phone charger, powered front driver and passenger seats, door-mounted circular speakers, and multi-coloured ambient lighting. Safety features on the Atto 3 include ADAS technology, a 360-degree camera, ABS, ESC, traction control, hill descent control, seven airbags, and ISOFIX child restraint anchorage points outer rear seats.

BYD Atto 3: Performance

The Atto 3 is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) mounted on its front axle that is able to produce 201hp and 310Nm of torque. With this, the electric SUV can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in 7.3 seconds, as per the company. As mentioned earlier, the electric SUV from BYD can cover 521 km of range on a single charge, with a 60.48kWh Blade battery pack.

This battery takes 50 minutes to charge from 0 percent to 80 percent through an 80kW DC fast charger and approximately 10 hours using a Type 2 (7kW) AC charger. BYD is also offering a 7kW home charger and a 3kW portable charging box to Atto 3 buyers. Interestingly, the Atto 3 comes with a 3.3kW Vehicle to Load function that allows charging of external electrical appliances through its battery.

BYD says that the first batch of deliveries of the Atto 3 will commence from January next year. It remains to be seen how the EV fairs against its rivals in the electric SUV segment in India.
