Google Chromecast with Google TV was launched back in September 2020 as one of the first streaming devices with Google TV UI instead of Android TV. While there are not any major changes on the Google TV UI, it bought a fresh new UI with four tabs on the top 一 Search, Home, Apps, and Library.
The Chromecast with Google TV from 2020 still runs on Android TV OS 10 and Google is likely to update the smart TV stick to the latest Android 12 version later this year. We have spotted the Chromecast with Google TV running on the Android 12 operation system on Geekbench along with more details, which gives us hope that Google might be working on updating the existing model as well. Let’s take a look at the information in detail.
Chromecast with Google TV Spotted on Geekbench Running Android 12
Google’s Chromecast with motherboard name “Sabrina” has been spotted on the Geekbench database. This is the codename for the current and existing Chromecast with Google TV and as per the listing the device comes with an ARM Amlogic chipset with four cores and 1.91GHz clock speed and 2GB of RAM. All this information are same as the one we have seen on the existing Chromecast with Google TV. However, the Chromecast, which has been spotted on the geekbench now is running on the Android 12 operation system, which is the biggest takeaway from the listing.
This means either Google is prepping to launch a new Chromecast with Google TV running on Android 12 OS or the company might be testing Android 12 on the existing Chromecast with Google TV and thus, they have performed a geekbench test. The device has secured 143 and 486 points in the single-core and multi-core tests respectively.
A few months back, a report from 9to5Google revealed that Google is working on a new device in the same family as the Chromecast with Google TV with the codename “Boreal”. The report also says the codename Boreal was found in the same family as Sabrina, which refers to the current Chromecast with Google TV. However, the specifications of the streaming device still remain a mystery.
At the end of the day, this listing gives hopes for current Chromecast with Google TV users as there is a solid charge that Google might roll out the Android 12 update to users bringing in new features like 4K UI support, refresh rate switching, accessibility settings for font sizes, mic and camera indicators and toggles, and more.
Last week, Google also announced Android 13 Beta for TV, but that can be tested only on the ADT-3 Developer Kit.
