There was a time when Coolpad was making some substantial progress in the Indian smartphone market. The brand later succumbed to the downfall; owing to the increasing domination by other brands such as Xiaomi. Now, Coolpad is making several attempts to make its presence felt in the market. The brand has launched a new phone dubbed Coolpad Note 8 smartphone in India today. With dual-camera setup, Face Unlock, and other features, let’s check out the price and specs of the device.
Coolpad Note 8 Pricing and Availability
The Coolpad Note 8 has been priced at Rs. 9,999 in India. It comes in a single variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage. As for its availability, the phone will be up for grabs exclusively via Paytm Mall, starting today. It comes in Black Piano finish – single color variant.
At this price, the phone has a lot to face in the Indian smartphone market. Xiaomi’s Redmi 6 Pro, Redmi Note 5, Realme C1, Honor 7C, and many others. These brands has set quite an image of themselves, and have earned goodwill. Entering in such a competitive segment, it would be interesting to see if Coolpad manages to stay relevant.
In a statement, Syed Tajuddin, CEO, Coolpad India, said:
“After going through a rough phase we are looking forward to make an impact in the Indian market with Coolpad Note 8. This product will also be our first cooperation with Paytm and we are looking forward to make it a mutually beneficial one.”
Coolpad Note 8 Specifications and Features
The Coolpad Note 8 comes with a 5.99-inch full-HD+ display bearing 1080×2160 pixels resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. A 1.5GHz MediaTek MTK6750T quad-core SoC powers the device coupled with MaliT860-MP2 GPU. The phone includes 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via microSD card.
On the software side, the phone runs Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box, we wonder if it will ever get to Android 9.0 Pie. Given that Android phones come with two years of update warranty from the OEMs, but not many phones get to even one major upgrade. It would be interesting to see if Coolpad sticks to the updates schedule.
Regarding optics, the Coolpad Note 8 sports 16MP+0.3MP dual camera setup that does not look good even on paper. The secondary lens seems too underpowered for proper dual camera setup. However, we cannot comment on the performance as we have not seen it in action. There is an 8MP selfie snapper at the front with f/2.2 aperture, face beauty for selfies, bokeh mode, panorama mode, and more.
Connectivity-wise, the phone supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth v4.2, and 3.5mm audio jack. A 4000mAh battery backs the device, which is claimed by the company to offer up to 8 hours of talk time. The phone features a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner that is touted to unlock the device in just 0.2 seconds. It measures 151×72.5×8.3mm and weighs 185 grams.
